Arts Education For the Greater Good: Frameworks for Advancing State Arts Education Partnerships A new NASAA report documents what was learned during a November 2001 workshop that brought together leaders from the state-level arts education support networks in Florida, Hawaii, Mississippi, Ohio and South Carolina. These leaders, representing state arts agencies, state alliances for arts education and state departments of education, assessed, shared and analyzed their successes and challenges so that other states interested in advancing their own arts education relationships could have a road map. 2003. The Arts and Children: A Success Story, a video available from NASAA, demonstrates the impact of quality arts education on student success. The 12-minute video features actress Meryl Streep, who affirms that young people who learn the arts do better in every phase of their lives.

Dear Black Excel Student and Parent Supporters This is a quick gateway (below) that you should consider immediately to resource help. Each state has aid sources
you should inquire about. No question about that! These
aid sources cover a wide range of programs, sometimes
including resident and fee reductions, "incentive awards,"
grants, scholarships, loans and more. High school guidance
counselors should be keeping you abreast in regard to what's
available. Often, however, this has not been the case. This
is a BLACK EXCEL tip. Call or write the appropriate state
agencies for information packages and assistance. Getting
your state "info and financial aid" packages could mean
savings to you and your child/students. -Isaac Black, Black Excel S T A T E A I D S O U R C E S ALABAMA Alabama Commission on Higher Education Suite 205 3465 Norman Bridge Road Montgomery, Alabama 36105-2310 State Department of Education Gordon Persons Office Building 50 North Ripley Street Montgomery, Alabama 36130-3901

ADVERTISEMENT AARP to Launch National Consumer Education Campaign in Florida to Raise Awareness of Telephone Savings Programs
There's good news for low-income consumers struggling to afford basic telephone service but who don't know where to find help. Thanks to a new pilot education campaign launched today by AARP and other Florida agencies, more consumers will learn about telephone savings programs, how to qualify, and where to enroll. AARP, in collaboration with the Florida Public Service Commission, and the Florida Office of Public Council is launching this pilot program in Florida today to increase enrollment in the "Lifeline" and "Link-Up" telephone savings programs. With a million eligible consumers in Florida, less than 15 percent participate in the Lifeline program finds a new AARP Public Policy Institute report, "Energy and Telephone Assistance in the States: Public Programs that Help Low-Income Households."

US State Government Aid The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for most state loan, grant and scholarship programs, in addition to the federal loans and grants. When you submit the FAFSA to the US Department of Education, they forward the information on the form to the state student assistance agency. Each state has a different FAFSA submission deadline. If you submit your FAFSA by March 1, you will be in time for all state deadlines, other than Michigan. If you miss the deadline, you will be ineligible to receive state aid for the entire academic year. Procedures for applying for state prepaid tuition programs and the national guard differ from state to state. The amount of information provided on the state web sites varies from state to states. Some states provide comprehensive information about residency requirements, loan, grant, scholarship and prepaid tuition programs and other state aid programs. Others provide minimal information. We recommend visiting the sites for both your state of residence and for the states of the colleges to which you are applying. A B C D ...
