Both the Appalachian and the Benton MacKaye Trail start at the top of Springer Mountain. In modern facilities which feature ten outdoor courts (Deco Turf II and Soft Har-Tru) and four indoor courts (Deco Turf II), the academy offers year-round private lessons, clinics and camps, as well as various packages and programs. Videotape analysis of game is available for teaching purposes. The pro shop features the latest tennis fashions, equipment and restringing services. Skiing/Snowshoeing Located in the ski capital of the East, Topnotch offers cross-country skiing and snowshoe trekking. Use of the 25 kilometers (15 miles) of groomed and natural trails that wind their way through the rolling hills of Topnotch and the surrounding valley, is complimentary to all guests. Intermediate trails connect to Stowe Mountain Resort and Edson Hill Touring Centers, making available an additional 100 kilometers (60 miles). Downhill skiing: Topnotch is the only off-mountain location where lift tickets for the Stowe Ski area can be purchased. Condé Nast Traveler ranked Topnotch “the number 10 ski resort in North America” (1999 Readers’ Poll). As the number one ski area in the Northeast, according to Ski and Skiing magazines, Stowe is known for offering the widest variety of terrain in Vermont for skiers of all levels.
