Year-Round Recreational Activities
YEAR-ROUND IN SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK

Throughout the year in Sequoia National Park, there are numerous visitor activities available, from nature walks and horseback riding to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The National Park Service offers interpretive programs regularly during spring, summer and fall as well as winter weekends. These programs, appealing to both adults and children, include talks, slide shows, films, evening campfire programs, guided nature and history walks. Anglers can try their luck fishing at the parks' many lakes, streams and rivers. The fishing season, extending from late April through November, commonly features rainbow, eastern brook, golden and German brown trout. Ages 16 and older need a California fishing license. Whether a casual day hiker, backpacker or seasoned mountaineer, there are plenty of walking and hiking trails to choose from including 25 trail heads leading to more than 800 miles of marked trails. Eighty percent of the park is accessible only by foot trails, and trails below 10,000-foot elevation are normally open by midsummer.

Loretta Singletary, Extension Educator Knowledge about preferred recreational activities where people go to recreate and how oftenis important to all stakeholders within a river basin. It is safe to say that any citizen who has a stake in local water issues has an interest in water related recreation in their locale. In fact, in arid western states where recreation is perceived as a competing use for scarce water, knowledge about this industry is important to all water users. Virtually all of Nevada's surface water is over-allocated, meaning that on an average annual basis there are more demands (water rights claims) than there is a supply to meet them. In dry years, junior water rights holders may not get their needs met, and recreators may be looking at low lake levels, muddy banks, and unusable boat ramps. Virtually all of Nevada's surface water is overallocated, meaning that on an average annual basis there are more demands (water rights claims) than there is a supply to meet them. To gain information about uses of water for recreation, this study examined activities of recreators in the Walker River Basin. It also assessed issues of concern to water recreators in the basin. Recreators' preferences for water sites and activities as well as issues of concern about these sites figure substantively into economic costs and benefits associated with water recreation.

An Introduction to Recreational Fishing
Recreational Fishing Rules
Fishing is one of New Zealand's most popular recreational activities. Each year thousands of New Zealanders go fishing and take large numbers of finfish, rock lobsters and shellfish. These quantities, from a very wide range of species, can seriously affect local fisheries. Therefore, it is vitally important for the sustainability of New Zealand's fishery resources that all fishers play their part in helping to conserve the resource so that generations to come will also be able to enjoy a days fishing. The Ministry of Fisheries administers recreational fishing rules in three broad areas covering a number of smaller areas generally known as Fishery Management Areas (FMAs): North - Auckland and Kermadec Fishery Management Areas (includes Northland, Waikato, the Bay of Plenty and the Kermadec Islands) Central - Central and Challenger Fishery Management Areas (includes Taranaki, NI East Coast, Wellington, Wairarapa, Hawkes Bay, Nelson, Marlborough, and the SI West Coast) South - South-East, Southland and Sub-Antarctic Fishery Management Areas (includes Fiordland, SI East Coast, Southland, Stewart Island, Chatham Islands and the Sub-Antarctic Islands)
