Fishing (Freshwater) The National Trust recognises that the management of fishing can benefit the environment. Fishing also provides a source of income on some properties. However there are also damaging impacts associated with fishing. The National Trust report 'The Management of Freshwater Fisheries' (1999) addresses these impacts (see References).

Fishing is generally well controlled by the Trust, principally by agreements with local fishing clubs and syndicates. There is scope for the promotion of good practice to prevent damage to the environment and to benefit fisheries.
Guiding principles 1. Fishing, for both game and coarse species, is welcomed by the National Trust where it already takes place, subject to its prime objectives, namely conservation of the landscape, nature conservation and the historic value of the property.
2. Where fishing does not already take place, it should only be permitted after a strategic assessment of its likely impacts and the preparation of a fishery management plan.

The Yentna River offers many freshwater streams that are excellent for fishing for all species of Salmon
  • King Salmon season is open January 1st through July 13th. Due to hard water (meaning ice), we begin our fishing season in late May. Silver Salmon begin running up the Yentna River the last week of July and run through August.
Our experienced father/son guides know where the hot spots are. They prefer to fish in the smaller streams near the Lodge that are quiet and less crowded. If combat fishing is what you like, they can take you there also! We supply all fishing gear and tackle . Bait is available for Silver Salmon, but is not allowed for Kings-lures only. You are welcome to bring your favorite, lucky fishing gear if you like.

Prophetstown State Park, on the northeast edge of the city along the south bank of the Rock River in Whiteside County, is a scenic and historic area offering a variety of recreational facilities. Once the site of an American Indian village, the 53-acre park derives its name from the Native American prophet Wa-bo-kie-shiek. Prophetstown became a state park in 1947 in legislation sponsored by State Rep. George S. Brydia, who had served 10 terms as mayor of Prophetstown. Gov. William G. Stratton dedicated the park in formal ceremonies there on Sept. 18, 1953.
