83. The Study Of Religion In Finland
or to be more accurate the concept of tradition from the interpretative frameswhich have produced the special charge on the concept of history in finland.

The Study of Religion in Finland
1. The History The ideological charge that was placed on the notions of 'tradition' and 'history' at the end of 1800's brought the cultural legacy of Finland into the discipline's specialty concern. Religion that became to be set in comparative perspective was neither Protestant, Catholic or Orthodox Christianity nor any other so- called 'high religion', but ethnic religious traditions (so-called 'folk religion') of the Finnish speaking population in the Finnish- Carelian Culture Area. The study of religion in Finland did not thus take off as on offspring of theological traditions, but from its 'opposing' camp; i.e. on ethnic and popular traditions of people indigenous to the territory. But more than Holmberg-Harva it was his teacher, Edward Westermarck who had broadened the scope of research on an international basis and imported British evolutionary anthropology, sociology and to a certain extent also social psychology in the Finnish academic world. Westermarck's approach to religious issues ranged from ethnography of the Moorish folk religion (Ritual and Belief in Morocco 1926) to the evolutionary study of human institution of marriage and ethnophilosophical background to various postulates on the moral issues of (The History of Human Marriage 1891, The Origin and Development of Moral Ideas 1906 - 1908, Christianity and morals 1939).

The Finns arrived in their present territory thousands of years ago, pushing the indigenous Lapps into the more remote northern regions. Finnish and Lappishthe language of Finland's small Lapp minorityboth are Finno-Ugric languages and are in the Uralic rather than the Indo-European family. Finland's nearly 700-year association with the Kingdom of Sweden began in 1154 with the introduction of Christianity by Sweden's King Eric. During the ensuing centuries, Finland played an important role in the political life of the Swedish-Finnish realm, and Finnish soldiers often predominated in Swedish armies. Finns also formed a significant proportion of the first "Swedish" settlers in 17th-century America.

http://personal.eunet.fi/pp/jarnef/comenius/history.htm
A VERY SHORT POLITICAL HISTORY OF FINLAND Sweden East and West has always been a difficult thing for Finland.) The power of the Swedish kingdom started collapse gradually. In 1809 Finland was forced to join the Russian Empire after the lost war. As an economically and politically more advanced area than Russia, Finland was given an autonomous (almost independent) status in this new union. Independence was gained in 1917 when the Russian Empire collapsed and Lenin took power. In the Second World War Finland was attacked by the Soviet Union. The Russians led by dictator Stalin were not able to occupy Finland in the wars 1939-1944 because the Finns defended themselves bravely. Finland was honourably able to maintain its independence, market economy and democracy. Some territories were lost though, -mainly in the south-eastern region (Karelia). In the cold war years Finland stayed neutral between the superpowers and their allies. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold war, Finland was able to become a member of the European Union in 1995.

History of hemp in Finland Erkki Laitinen
Voionmaankatu 24 B, FIN-40100 Jyväskylä, Finland Arrival in Finland
Hemp, a crop plant found all over the world, has been cultivated for at least 3,000 years. It was grown in India during the years 800-900 B.C, and was the first fiber plant to be used in China. In Europe, hemp became known a little later than in Asia. Its use is mentioned at the end of the 'golden' period of Greece and during Roman times, approximately 2,000 years ago. At that time, hemp was already being cultivated throughout the Mediterranean region, according to historic documents.
Recent scientific investigations have, however, changed established opinions on the age of hemp cultivation in Europe. Evidence of hemp cultivation in the area of modern Switzerland, Austria and Germany during the period of 800-400 BC, has been suggested from the analysis of soil samples from these regions. It may be assumed that with continuing paleoecological ( i.e. , research on pollen from lake sediments) and macro-fossil ( i.e.
