1) Historical Comprehension
The films in Great Earthquake and Fire: San Francisco, 1897-1916 , focus on a pivotal twenty-year period in the development of modern America. A film captures a distinct "place in time," and the films in this archive can be viewed for visual clues to what life was like in large cities and their emerging suburbs in the early twentieth century. Films such as Market Street Before Parade depict different modes of transportation, dress, and activities popular at the time. A Trip to Berkeley, Cal. , shot from the back of a moving streetcar, reveals a suburban area that is fairly built up by 1906, but still has enough undeveloped land for future growth. Market Street Before Parade , May 12, 1903
2) Historical Analysis and Interpretation
The twenty-six films are historical artifacts that illustrate early film-making technology. By comparing early films with contemporary movies, students can view firsthand the evolution of movie-making technology and develop an appreciation for early film makers who pioneered the "modern" techniques of special effects, simulation, and animation some 100 years ago.

His firm manufactures stepladders, ironing boards - and wooden toys. Two years later, in 1934, the company and its products now adopt the name LEGO placing the motto on the workshop wall: "Only the best is good enough". After several versions of the well-known plastic brick had been fashioned the company launches the revolutionary "LEGO System of Play": 28 sets and 8 vehicles.” - History provided by LEGO One of my favorite toys to play with as a child was Legos. Little red/blue/yellow bricks with round plastic wedges protruding from the top and a hollow opening to put the wedges in the bottom. I was able to accumulate a small city before my Lego days were put behind me. I had a hotel, police station, gas station that would lie on either side of roads or grass or water...all done in plastic. Giant Starships were built to roam the universe that was my room defending against intruders. When the Starships were destroyed in the heat of battle new ships were built to take their place. Intricate, massive story lines were created resulting in hours of construction and destruction. Something I really wish they had around when I was a kid was the Lego Studio Playsets.
