We have the technology - YOU have the talent!
The technology is here today for you to produce your full length features using video!
In recent years the production of independent films and videos has greatly increased due to many contributing technologies. The internet has allowed the independent producer the opportunity to achieve broad distribution of their product for little or no cost. This is the same phenomenon that created the buzz which launched “The Blair Witch Project” into commercial success and have given many small-town bands widespread exposure through web radio and MP3s. Faster access in homes throughout the country will soon allow the same broadband distribution of video and an independent producer will not only be able to create a buzz for their production, they will actually be able to distribute it right into our homes. There are many new technologies making this broadband distribution a reality. The new DV camcorders, decks, and non-linear editing systems have brought the ability to create high quality final productions at a fraction of the cost of a similar system just 2 years ago. In fact, this new format is so popular that major studios are now supporting DV production and the Sundance Film Festival has received about three times as many digital entries this year compared to previous years!

    http://www.exposure.co.uk/eejit/animation/
Select a Section Hot News Eejit's Guide to Film-Making 10 Minute Film School Discussion Forum exposure.co.uk - main Animation is film-making in reverse. If a movie is action captured at 24 frames a second, then animation is 24 still frames made up to produce a second of action. Due to a phenomenon known as 'persistence of vision' (where our eyes retain images for a tenth of a second) the individual images have the illusion of movement, and animators can bring objects to life. Animation allows film-makers to tell fantastical stories. Stop motion animation has been in use since the birth of film-making, from special effects pioneer Georges Melies Voyage to the Moon (1902), through Ray Harryhausen's arm of marauding skeletons in Jason and the Argonauts Chicken Run If you have big ideas and a small budget animation is an excellent method of telling your stories. Peter Jackson , director of the multi-million dollar Lord of the Rings trilogy, started out producing stop motion animation in his bedroom. Creating animation doesn't require a crew of thousands armed with walkie-talkies or a convoy of teamsters to move your production. Equipped with a cine camera, modelling clay and a quiet working space you can produce your own animated films.

    Introduction
The following is an incomplete annotated reading list of books on visual effects, animation and film making that I have found useful, and recommend for the bookshelf of anyone in our business. I have all of the books mentioned. But just be aware in reading my comments that my expertise is limited in many of these areas (hence my need to read), nor is my opinion the only valid one. I welcome suggestions for further reading. (I always want to learn more about this.)
Box, Harry C. (1997). Set Lighting Technician's Handbook (second edition). Boston: Focal Press. ISBN 0-240-80257-8. This is sort of the Bible for anyone wanting to understand the basics of lighting for film. It is not about how to light; rather, it is about the technology and logistics of lighting. Hence, it is a good introduction to the vocabulary, etc. Braun, Marta (1994). Picturing Time : The Work of Etienne-Jules Marey (1830-1904). Chicago: University of Chicago Press. This might be the best book that I have read in 5 years. It is a great piece of scholarship that reads like an adventure novel. Marey was a brilliant researcher who deserves to be much better known. He made important contributions to the fields of cinemaphotography, medicine, kinesiology, the study of work, and photography. He made what is arguably the first motion capture system, and was an important influence on painters such as Duchamp and Degas. This is a must read for anyone interested in animation, film, or human factors.

    Kids Making Animation:
A Sampling of Children's Animation Workshops Around the World
Compiled by Wendy Jackson Across the globe, there are pioneering people sharing their love for the art and craft of animation through teaching children. Some workshops are affiliated with the ASIFA International Children's Workshop initiative, while others are run independently of any other groups. From cameraless techniques such as Zoetropes and drawing on film, to drawn, cutout and model animation, these workshops have one thing in common: they teach children to understand abstract concepts of time, movement and design, while giving them an opportunity to express themselves creatively. Here are profiles of what some teachers are doing.
Zoetrope strips made by children in Israel. Carousel, Tel-Aviv, Israel
Eitan Oded heads up this workshop, which finds its home base "all over the country," with funding derived from "school budgets, parents, and educational funds." This independent workshop is designed for children ages 6-17. Oded reports that, he's "a computer systems analyzer, freelance journalist, interior and graphic designer, and a teacher of animation, art and photography."
"Carousel," Oded notes, is a "one-time animation workshop, aimed at giving the inexperienced participant the basic experience of creating a short animation film. I don't need any special preparation to do the workshop, but I can start at once. I use a big Zoetrope to show the animations, and we usually record the short films on video as well.

Japan's Most Popular Film of All Time
a book review by Fred Patten A hallmark of Japan's Studio Ghibli animation company is a coffee-table art book on the production art of each of its features. This text is a translation by Mark Schilling of Ghibli's The Art of Princess Mononoke which accompanied the film's 1997 theatrical release. Hyperion's edition is similarly timed to accompany Miramax's October 29 release of Walt Disney's English-language version of the movie.
Princess Mononoke Mononoke Hime; Princess of the Animal Gods ) is the Disney/Miramax introduction of the films of Hayao Miyazaki to the art-cinema community. (Disney's previous Miyazaki release, Kiki's Delivery Service , was marketed for children as a direct-to-video film.) To provide contextual information for American cinema buffs, Schilling has added a very helpful five-page 'Introduction' which succinctly combines a biography of Miyazaki, a history of Studio Ghibli, production notes on Princess Mononoke , and a summary of its public and critical reception.
