45 More Cats From Pittston Euthanized:Felines too Wild to Adopt
Another 45 of the 164 cats taken from a Pittston home had to be euthanized because the animals were too ill-tempered to be adopted.
About 30 of the cats, however, have been adopted and found new homes and new lives.
Of the 164 cats taken from the home after the homeowner, Nicholas Arkas, died in early December, a total of 114 had to be euthanized for reasons including disease and malnutrition.
The last 45 cats euthanized earlier this month were so aggressive they could not be handled and were deemed unadoptable because of their temperaments, according to the director of the shelter that took the cats.
"We gave them time. We wanted to give them every opportunity, hoping their temperaments would get better," said Sherri Thomsen, executive director of the Kennebec Valley Humane Society.
