Walter van Beirendonck
Website: www.walt.de Walter Van Beirendonck was born in Brecht, Belgium in 1957. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1980. While still studying, he was designing during the period 1977-1980 for Oke Sportswear. He spent the next few years after graduation doing free-lance sketching for Belgian fashion magazines. In 1985, in London, a group of 6 fashion designers from Antwerp collectively presented their collections. They were known as The Antwerp Six. They included Anne Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Martin Margiela, Josephus Thimister, Dirk Bikkembergs, and Walter Van Beirendonck. They have all gone on to be celebrated designers. While designing for his own label, he also designed sportswear for the Rhinosaurus Rex line for Italian designer Gianfranco Ferre, till 1992. In 1995 Van Beirendonck changed the name of his label to "Wild and Lethal Trash". His clothes are made of synthetic, innovative, and high-tech fabrics combined with bright colour combinations and bold graphics. His collections abound with inflatable rubber jackets, fuzzy nylon suits, and stretchy tops with hologram prints. The fashion world still remembers the models falling off the stage during his most spectacular show in 1995 at the Lido in Paris.

88. History Of Fashion Designer Mary Quant
Designer career profile and biography provided.
http://www.designerhistory.com/historyofashion/quant.html
MARY QUANT
Mary Quant was the fashion designer and entrepreneur responsible for the "London Look" of the 60's. She was the inventor of the min-skirt and hot pants. She proclaimed "good taste is death, vulgarity is life" and summarized the fashion of the 60's as "arrogant, aggressive and sexy." Although she is still designing today, she is largely known for her 60's creations. Mary Quant was born in London, England on February 11th, 1934. From 1950-1953 she attended Goldsmith's College of Art in London. After graduating, she worked for Erik, a London milliner. In 1955 Mary opened BAZAAR a shop on the Kings Road London, with Alexander Plunket-Greene who later became her husband and another partner Archie McNair. Here she sold inexpensive, brightly coloured simple clothes which were immediate hits with young girls and boys. These included skinny rib jumpers, ready-to-wear short skirts and dresses, coloured tights, hipster belts, PVC garments and sleeveless crochet tops and hats. In 1957 she opened a second boutique. In 1961 Mary Quant showed her first fur collection and launched her first wholesale company. In 1962 she presented her first collection for the American market. She also started to design for J.C. PENNEY of New York.

Faces in Fashion in Notting Hill Stella McCartney
designer

Stella McCartney was always destined for fame - there is that surname for a start! Daughter of Beatle Paul and mum Linda - Stella grew up in a special household indeed, and started making a name for herself in 1995 age 23 at her catwalk show to end her degree at St Martins School of Fashion. Not only were her famous parents in attendance (naturally), but to top it off she also had pals Kate Moss and Naomi Cambell do a turn down the catwalk. Stella has been rising to 'stellar' heights since that day...

The designer's roller coaster ride to success has landed him in the haute couture limelight. Even as a student at London's Royal College of Art, where he graduated from, his designs have graced the catwalks alongside Lacroix, Dior and Comme des Garcons. Karl Lagerfeld, working with the RCA on their annual project, recognized MacDonalds talent and commissioned him to work for Chanel and his own KL collection.

92. History Of Fashion Designer Madame Jeanne Paquin
Profile of the designer and her husband who were the team behind the label presented.
http://www.designerhistory.com/historyofashion/paquin.html
MADAME JEANNE PAQUIN
Jeanne Beckers was born in Saint Denis, France in 1869. She and her husband, Isidore Jacobs, called themselves Monsieur and Madame Paquin. Madame Paquin trained in dressmaking at the famous Maison Maggy Rouff. In 1890 the Paquins opened their own Maison de Couture on the rue de la Paix, just next door to the great house of WORTH. Madame Jeanne was the designer and her husband ran the business and administration. In 1898 they opened a couture house in London, following it with others in Buenos Aires, Madrid and a special shop for furs in New York. In 1900 Madame Paquin was chosen to organize the fashion segment of the Exposition Universelle, held in Paris. In the 1900's Her house was welcoming and casual, not proud and haughty like Worth or other top couturiers. A Paris guidebook said "this clever and ornamental young couple follow a new system, no seclusion, no barred doors, you may be met at the door by M. Paquin himself and welcomed into their salon." In 1910 she was the first couturier to send mannequins (models)to the races at Longchamps and Chantilly to show off her clothes. She also sent 12 girls to tour the major cities of America.

Everything and everyone's online. Including, now, your favourite fashion designer. This influx of designers' Web sites began a couple of years ago, when the Internet was still in its nascent stage in India. Among the first to catch the cyber bug was Arjun Khanna, whose Web site was launched almost four years ago. "I have always been fascinated with the Internet", says the designer. Anita Dongre, prêt and couture designer, went online three years ago, while others like Krishna Mehta and Payal Singhal did the same about a year ago. Which raises a question. If their designs are doing well enough in stores, why do these designers need a presence online? "The Web site helps create an awareness of the designer," says Manuja, Marketing Executive for AND Designs . Rekha Singhal, Director, LF Couture Ltd, designer Payal Singhal's company, adds
