Istituto di Moda Burgo was created with the intention of transforming its students into real artists. Thus, each student is shown how to reconcile his individual imagination with professional workplace requirements. To become a stylist means to be able to express a concept and implement it in terms of fashion. As a part of this process, it is necessary to know something about clothes, colouring techniques, manufacturing and most importantly how to give form ( style ) to an idea knowing that it can be realized. For this reason, stylism has put together fashion - designer courses and pattern courses understanding that the stylist is owner of the entire production cycle, from the start of an idea to the completion of the final product. Iris von Arnim "There has to be more in my life than Cashmere" says Iris von Arnim, talking about the emotional and rational added value of her design. It is that added value, a result of longterm experience, that forms style, profile and philosophy of her collection.
Iris von Arnim uses only the best cashmere from Italy. She has her own production sites in Italy where her design is interpreted by hand. Thus refined details and fully fashioned architectures that a machine cannot make are made possible.
The dedication to refined values is continued in her suiting and woven collection with fine materials such as silk taffeta, leather and chiffon. In combination with mat cashmere knits it creates the whole and individual Iris von Arnim look. Added on: 5/6/2002 Hits: 140
Issey Miyake
Issey Miyake was born in Hiroshima in 1938. After studying graphics arts in Tokyo's Tama Art University, he decided to later study fashion design at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. In 1970 he opened up his own Miyake Design Studio in Tokyo where he was able to experiment with various design techniques. Through this studio, he has been able to develop natural fabrics and designs, and has even designed costumes.
The Miyake design sensibility revolves around change and movement. Displayed as art, as they were in the Making Things exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain in Paris last year, the clothes appear precisely geometric and static. Once worn, though, they take on volume and mobility, as if they are living sculptures.

"Fashion is about sex," opined Vivienne Westwood once about her chosen profession. Well, she would say that, wouldn't she? After all, this is the woman who, upon receiving an OBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace, twirled for the cameras in her circular skirt and revealed to the world that she was not wearing any knickers. Then there's also the small matter of the monicker of her first shop, Sex, plus the fact that one of her sons is the owner of saucy underwear boutique Agent Provocateur. Born Vivienne Swire in the Peak District village of Tintwistle in 1941, as a teenager the British designer moved to Harrow, a suburb of northwest London, where her parents took over the running of a post office. At 21, she married Derek Westwood, a toolmaker, but the marriage did not last. .... Her career in fashion did not take off until she met Malcolm McLaren, later known as the manager of punk band the Sex Pistols.... It was London which gave Vivienne the boost her creativity needed. After a stint selling her own jewellery in Portobello Market, she and Malcolm opened the infamous Sex boutique at the bottom end of the Kings Road where her provocative designs were sold. from HELLO! magazine

CAREER CHOICES: Rogers Rates...Fashion Design "Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society." Mark Twain said it and it still holds true today. People need clothes, if only to protect themselves from public indecency charges. And if you're going to have clothes, you might as well have nice ones. So, loosen your forest-green jumbo cords and prepare to enter the unzipped world of the fashion designer. Virginia Macari is just 24 and a fashion designer and company director with Macari and Brennan. Virginia has been hooked on fashion since her dad gave her a toy sewing machine at age eight and she takes the long hours and tight deadlines in her stride. "The satisfaction I get from seeing someone wearing my clothes is amazing. I enjoy the pressure of constantly having to be one step ahead and having to design something new. You also meet so many varied and creative people, both in the industry and among our many clients." Clothes maketh the man, but what makes a good fashion designer? Talent is the key.
