I am sure you feel that way, but? The FMLA act was put into effect in Aug 1993. State Farm had company policies in place since that date, up until June of 1999. These policies for both the employees and the management guide were found to favor the company in many ways and were out of compliance with both Federal and State Law. If you were an employee during this time, your rights were also effected by this violation.
I know this because I am the one who asked off to be with my newborn and had my rights violated by management and human resources. You have a company directory, ask Kevin Reeves, Martin McNair, James Wright, Curtis Martin, Nancy Mitchell, or even Max Stallings. Hey, look in the comapany manual. The written (1996) has the bad info, the on-line version has the info that was changed after my complaints to the US Department Of Labor.

Also included are a phone number and E-mail address for those who might want to contact him, as well as the address of his web site on agricultural personnel management, which is a virtual treasure-chest of information on this subject. Employee Management for Production Agriculture Conference
August 15, 2001 (Chicago)
The Employee Management for Production Agriculture Conference concluded August 3 to rave reviews. 160 participants from eighteen different states and a variety of production backgrounds attended. Participants from different sides of the country and with very different types of businesses were able to share and learn with each other. Notes conference organizer Sarah L. Fogelman, an extension agricultural economist at Kansas State University, "Judging from the attendance from over the last two years and the amazing feedback we have received from conference participants, it is safe to say that this conference is addressing a need that is universal and growing." Of the 70 conference evaluations received, 61 attendees wanted to see this conference repeated and 66 thought the value (quality and quantity of information) received outweighed total costs of time, travel, lodging, and fees. The conference website includes proceedings, information about speakers, and other useful information.

Accident-proofing your farm is one of the most important tasks you will ever do. It takes a lot of time, effort and planning to ensure that family, employees and visitors will be less likely to be injured or killed because of the safety measures practiced. Orientate visitors on what to expect on the farm, and do not leave visitors unsupervised. Unfortunately, no matter how well you and all those directly involved in farm operations prepare, train and follow safe farm operation procedures, the farm owner or manager always runs the risk of unwanted visitors. There are numerous reasons, legal and illegal, as to why people wander onto farmland. Most people trespass for recreational or non-farming purposes such as; hunting, fishing, swimming and picnicking; all of which usually take place without permission of farm management. It is in the best interest of farm management to dissuade unwanted visitors. Unwanted visitors are a liability. This fact sheet will provide farm owners and managers with information and ideas that will help management identify and eliminate attractive nuisances and also help lessen the chance of unwanted visitors becoming injured on your farm.

Farm Credit Services of Missouri
Background:
Farm Credit Service of Missouri (FCSM) has been providing financial support and services to farmers, ranchers, and rural inhabitants since 1917. The Farm Credit system is a Government sponsored program offering assistance exclusively to those in agricultural development, or in very remote regions of the United States. The organization functions like many large financial services enterprises (excluding checking account systems) holding loan accounts in excess of $1.3 billion. The firm operates out of 29 offices, and maintains 185 employees.
Situation Analysis:
FCSM employees were faced with the added tasks associated with researching, generating, maintaining, and following-up with established clients, as well as supporting all of these needs for ever crucial future prospects. The need for hands on, inter-personnel, customer knowledge was simply going unmet.

Correcting them just might turn your employee problems around. Good communication can help you relate to your employees, integrate them as members of a cohesive team and help you effectively define job responsibilities. In short, it can help you build a productive work environment, where good employees are more likely to stay long term.
This article offers helpful tips to get employers and employees talking regularly and effectively. We think that if you try these ideas, you’ll find that nothing is as effective as face-to-face communication.

Employment Management

Four Steps to Improve the Hiring Process Who couldn't use help in the area of hiring employees? Here are four steps that Howard Hill, veterinarian and chief operating officer with Iowa Select Farms, says can help you hire and retain quality employees. STEP 1 Take actions to improve the efficiency of your human resources department. If that's you, then take note. STEP 2 Utilize employees with pork production experience in the human resources department and /or the hiring process. These individuals have a better understanding of the skills and talents needed to work in the operation. Such persons are often very adept at sorting through applicants. STEP 3 Implement a program that requires those involved in the hiring process to observe a different farm, production stage and /or job each week. This should allow them to better match the skills and talents of an applicant with a particular unit or job. Hill also advises giving job candidates a tour of the area where they may work. This allows the manager and other workers an opportunity to meet and evaluate the candidate's potential fit.

Human Resource Management: Employee Attraction and Selection Guide
Sarah L. Fogleman, David Anderson and Dean McCorkle*
A recent study by Ernst and Young concluded that recruiting and retaining key personnel is the single largest concern of the 400 fastest growing companies in the country. Is your farm one of those 400? Probably not. Should agricultural managers be concerned about finding and keeping high quality employees? You bet. Successful managers have learned that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure when it comes to dealing with employee problems. The risk of hiring a bad employee can be minimized with a sound recruitment and selection process. Recruiting and selecting the right employee for a position is important for the long-term benefit of your farm. This guide covers five steps agricultural managers can use to recruit and select the right employees for their businesses.
Five Steps To Recruiting and Selecting 1. Consider the needs of the position and the business
2. Build an applicant pool
