Biography resources: Finding information on the famous, infamous, and obscure
Vol. 63 No. 1 by Susan A. Schreiner and Michael A. Somers Finding biographical information on the Internet is both time-consuming and frustrating. While any particular name can retrieve a number of hits on any search engine of your choice, finding current, accurate biographies can be difficult. Fortunately, the Internet is a rich source of diverse biographical information, and the following sites will guide users to an array of information on numerous topics. This collection is by no means comprehensive (what guide on the Internet is?), but the sites were chosen for the depth of their articles or the sheer bulk of biographical materials available. People - Some Significant Figures In US and Canadian History, Entrepreneurs and Personalities
Introduction
This page contains very brief biographies of some significant figures in US and Canadian history, plus a few entrepreneurs and current personalities. It also includes some well known fictional characters. I have not included figures such as television and film stars and politicians who are likely be well known to British and other foreign visitors. This list is obviously far from complete and ranges from the sublime to the, well, shall we say... rather less sublime. In most cases more detailed information on an individual person is readily available from a variety of sources such as encyclopedias. Where no dates are given, I have so far been unsuccessful in my attempts to discover them.
Ansel Adams

http://www.itf-information.com/information02.htm
ABOUT GENERAL CHOI, HONG HI, AUTHOR OF THE TAEKWON-DO ENCYCLOPEDIA:
As one of the closest associates of the author and having learned this art from him during our imprisonment under the Japanese occupation, I might deserve to write about the life of the author. First of all, it must be said about the author, that he had given so much devotion to this art, that the man, his life and his work are one. He has long developed and brought the little-known ancient genres up-to-date through long years of assiduous, zealous application and firm resolution. If Taekwon-Do today had gained international status, it is because of the tireless efforts of one man- the father of modern Taekwon-Do.
General Choi Hong Hi was born on November 9th, 1918 in the rugged and harsh area of Hwa Dae, Myong Chun District in what is now D.P.R of Korea. In his youth, he was frail and quite sickly, a constant source of worry for his parents.
Even at an early age, however, the future general showed a strong and independent spirit. At the age of twelve he was expelled from school for agitating against the Japanese authorities who were in control of Korea. This was the beginning of what would be a long association with the Kwang Ju Students’ Independence Movement.
After his expulsion, young Choi’s father sent him to study calligraphy under one of the most famous teachers in Korea, Mr. Han II Dong. Han, in addition to his skills as a calligrapher, was also a master of Taek Kyon, the ancient Korean art of foot fighting. The teacher, concerned over the frail condition of his new student, began teaching him the rigorous exercises of Taek Kyon to help build up his body.

99. Alfred Korzybski Biography By Steven Lewis

http://www.kcmetro.cc.mo.us/pennvalley/biology/lewis/akbio.htm
Alfred Korzybski (pronounced "Kahshibski") was born July 3, 1879, in Warsaw, Poland, to wealthy, aristocratic parents. By his teenage years he could speak four languages Polish, Russian, French and German. He managed his father's farm before attending the Polytechnic Institute at Warsaw to study chemical engineering. At the outbreak of World War I in 1914, when Korzybski was 35, he volunteered to join the Second Russian Army, where he served as a battlefield intelligence officer. He was injured three times during the war: first, dislocating his left hip when his horse was shot and fell on him; later he was shot in the knee; finally, he injured himself as he attempted to clear a cannon that was obstructing a muddy road. In December 1915 he was sent to Canada and the United States as an artillery expert for the Russian Army. Once in Canada he began studying English, which became his favorite language and the one in which he would write his major works. In 1917 Korzybski moved to New York to supervise the shipping of ammunition to Russia. When the Russian Army and government collapsed later that year, he stayed in the United States to continue war efforts on behalf of the French and Polish armies. Soon the United States Government hired him to travel the U.S. as a war lecturer to encourage sale of Liberty bonds.
