    Welcome
    The Anglo-German Family History Society welcomes all those who are interested in researching the genealogy or family history of people from the German-speaking parts of Europe who have emigrated over the centuries and settled in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland (North and South), and the neighbouring islands. The Society is a self-help group. In 1987 a group of people researching their German ancestry in England found that there was virtually no advice available on how to trace their ancestry back to the Continent and got together to help each other. Over the intervening years, members of the Society have built up considerable expertise and produced many finding aids and booklets on aspects of the history of Germans in UK which are available through the Society. If you are new to German research or a seasoned expert, the Society can still help you and you are urged to join. From small beginnings the Society has grown to 1,300 + members all over the world. While the bulk of our members are in England, and especially in South East England, we also have many members in Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada. Everyone anywhere who has an interest in tracing German-speaking people in the British Isles are welcome to join. The more people who join, the more likely that members can help each other!

    Family Science Frequently Asked Questions back to Family Science press release What is Family Science? Supported by Chevron, Family Science is a pilot program provided through the Family Science Foundation. The program is designed to address the under-representation of female and minority students in science-based careers. Family Science provides children with hands-on experience that captures their interest in science and math with innovative and easy ways to make science fun. This is achieved through skill-building workshops involving teachers, students and families. What makes the Family Science program unique? Parental involvement is the key to the success of Family Science. By including parents in the training, Family Science increases opportunities for learning outside the classroom and ensures that positive messages about science are reinforced at home. What are the goals of Family Science? To make science more accessible to the entire family by offering:
    • a nonthreatening, hands-on approach to learning scientific processes, concepts and themes;

    CHEVRONTEXACO INTRODUCES PROGRAM TO DEVELOP SCIENTISTS OF THE FUTURE SAN RAMON, Calif., Oct. 13, 2001 ChevronTexaco today announced a new Family Science program, which is designed to address the under-representation of female and minority students in science-based careers. The goal of the program is to make science both fun and exciting to schoolchildren and their families. The Family Science program is a two-day skill-building workshop that includes one component for teachers and another for students and parents. This binational program begins today at the Mexican Heritage Museum in San Jose, Calif. A similar event will be held in Toluca, Mexico, Nov. 10. "We need to develop scientists, engineers and chemists to shepherd global companies such as ChevronTexaco into the future," said Dave Reeves, president of North America Products Co., a division of ChevronTexaco. "The basic building blocks for our children’s futures include science and math as their cornerstone. Children need to understand the concept of science to be able to understand the world." On Friday, 50 elementary school teachers from the Alum Rock School District in San Jose gathered for a free training seminar at the Mexican Heritage Plaza. Led by the Family Science Foundation, the seminar helped teachers focus on how to enhance their science teaching skills. They learned unique science experiments that are intended to pique the interest of children of any age. These experiments also are designed to be simple and easily duplicated using everyday items available at home.

Master of Science in Biology The Master of Science in Biology program is supported by faculty from the School of Biological Sciences, the Department of Agricultural Sciences, and the School of Forestry. Thus the program offers a wide array of academic and research opportunities. Such opportunities include an interdisciplinary approach and particular strengths in Cell and Molecular Biology, Environmental Biology, and Organismal Biology. Members of the Graduate Faculty are both productive and focused on student success. Students graduating from the program possess skills necessary to enter professional or doctoral programs, advance their careers, and continue life-long learning. Student success is facilitated by a low student/faculty ratio.
