Mountain Bike TV Creator, Joe Stone said, “Like so many other events, we have suffered in the dry sponsorship market. “A key investor suddenly and unexpectedly withdrew early in January. This close to the planned start of the 9 to 5 Race Day series, it is not possible for us to go ahead. I personally apologize to anyone who has made arrangements to participate, and I would like to thank all those pro teams and riders who showed faith in our plan by committing to compete in the series. These groups and individuals will be remembered as we make plans for the future.” The loss of the 9 to 5 Race Day Series, however, does not mean the end of Stone’s vision of applying a personality and character-driven television series to professional mountain bike racing. Joe Stone’s original concept was to combine a mountain biking festival series for amateur racers, recreational riders, and families with a reality television series featuring pro racing action and behind-the-scenes footage of top mountain bikers in training, at home, and on the road.

During the Bowlathon, an event sponsored by various companies, Christian Hofer broke the previous World Record for Consecutive Hours of Bowling by 2 hours and 45 minutes. Chris, aged 53, bowled for 55 hours - being allowed one 15-minute break every eight hours, his only other rest coming between shots as he waits for his ball to return. An Austrian by birth, Chris has lived in South Africa for 20 years. He has been bowling for 30 years and practiced for up to 9 hours a day for 2 months in preparation for his bid on the world record. The previous mark for consecutive hours of bowling stood at 52 hours and 15 minutes. After this incredible effort, the remarkably lucid Chris walked home.
