The Lundberg Family Farms Homepage
Wendell, Eldon, Homer and Harlan Lundberg in partnership with nature Quality Brown Rice and Brown Rice Products Since 1937 Lundberg Family Farms is a family owned and operated farm committed to growing and producing the finest brown rice, specialty rice varieties , and brown rice products for your family. We grow all our Organic and Nutra-Farmed rice in the fertile Sacramento Valley of Northern California. The Sacramento Valley was the perfect setting for Albert Lundberg to pass on his legacy of respect for the land to his four sons. Albert had seen the ravages of the Dustbowl that resulted from poor soil management and short-sighted farming techniques. After moving the family to Northern California, he impressed upon us the need to care for the soil. We went on to pioneer Organic rice-growing in America. For over 50 years Lundberg Family Farms has been using methods of farming that care for the soil, wildlife, air and water . This special concern for the environment is equaled only by concern for product quality. We hope that you will enjoy our wholesome and flavorful products. Your purchases support a way of farming that enhances the environment and provides the highest quality brown rice and brown rice products, from our family to yours. Campaign wins referendum on pork checkoff On February 27, Dan Glickman called for a referendum of pork producers on the pork checkoff at the National Farmer’s Union convention in Salt Lake City. This was a huge victory for the Campaign for Family Farms, which worked hard to collect the 19,043 signatures. The National Pork Board collects $48 million in annual assessments from the mandatory checkoff tax that hog farmers must pay. The signatures of 20% of America’s hog farmers were given to USDA on May 24, 1999. Signatures of 15% of American hog farmers require the Secretary to conduct a nationwide referendum. Hog farmer and MRCC program director Rhonda Perry called Glickman’s action "a decision on the side of democracy" and predicted other commodity producers would quickly follow suit with a vote against checkoffs. "We are very, very confident we will win a referendum because this program is a train off its tracks." Secretary Glickman called for the referendum because USDA’s attempt at a verification process was severely flawed. During the eight month verification process, USDA made only two attempts to contact a sample of hog farmers, first through a telemarketing firm during harvest, then through a mailing sent to a smaller sample during the height of the Christmas season. They also required these farmers to send in personal financial documentation to prove that they sold hogs. The information required more documentation to get a vote on the checkoff than to get a list of hog farmers from USDA’s Small Hog Operation Payments last fall. USDA required a sixty percent response rate, which they themselves admitted was an unreasonable expectation.

17. Family Farms, Where Are They Going From Here?
Along with those days, the Family Farm is disappearing. Today, while family farmsstill exist, these fuels are not being mass produced in our country.

If You Eat, You Are Involved In Farming
Did You Know

  • The number of farmers under the age of 25 has decreased 50% in the last 10 years!!
  • 20% of American jobs have ties to Agriculture!! This is an editorial by me, Sarah Brombaugh, of Same Dog Productions, part owner of a Family Farm Corporation, and wife of an American Farmer. I did not grow up on a farm. I was raised in a big city, where I thought farmers had it made. All the food they could eat for free!! Throw some seed in the ground and make money!! Wow, what an easy life. I have now lived on a Family Farm for 27 years and I know differently....
    M
any remember the years when farming was a way of life. When you grew all your own food...eggs, pork, beef, poultry, gardens full of bountiful vegetables.
T ractors didn't cost as much or more as a new home. You didn't have to plant thousands of acres to make a living.
T hose days are gone. Gone forever we're afraid. Along with those days, the Family Farm is disappearing.
