Status: Pruning/fixing broken links (103) This page provides an annotated, topic-based collection of available resources for statistics, statistical graphics, and computation related to research, data analysis and teaching, now containing over 580 links. Recently added links are now maintained automatically and indicated with the icon. There is both some redundancy (some sites listed more than once, or separate listings for different documents maintained at a single place), and some unevenness (it reflects my idiosyncratic interests) in this list, but I hope it's useful nonetheless.

Early Explorers
Today, if we wanted to go exploring in the woods, or in a cave, or up a river in the mountains, we could probably run out to an auto club or go to the Internet and find information. But what did the early explorers do before maps were so readily available? How did they know how long it would take to get somewhere? What tools would they have used to help plot their course? And who were these people and what made them want to chart out new territory? The resources below help in solving answers to these and other questions.

During the time your students are working on BioKIDS, you may wish to provide a collection of print resources that focus on biodiversity and related concepts. We list a few titles below. Your school media specialist is likely to know of good resources available in your library, to supplement our list.
General Biodiversity and Ecology
. Richard Spurgeon, Tulsa, OK: Usborne Publishing. 1988. ISBN 0-88110-363-2. Dewey J 574.5 SP
Good general resource, lots of good definitions and some good examples.
Biodiversity . Dorothy Hinshaw Patent. New York: Clarion Books. (1996).
Good resource for general concepts, but does not go into depth. As mentioned in a Booklist review, "Patent uses lots of examples of various habitats and ecosystems and keystone species but nothing is discussed in depth, and the generalizations seem random."
Bats, Bugs, and Biodiversity . Susan E. Goodman, Atheneum Books for Young Readers, New York, 1995.
