This means that our international partners have to make clear that they are friends will commit themselves to eliminate their forms of trade distorting export

document.write(''); document.write('English'); document.write(''); en EUROPA European Commission Agriculture What's new? ... Search EUROPA A new EU initiative to jump start WTO farm talks It is a matter of common sense that if all WTO members want an agreement on a framework for modalities of the Doha Development Agenda, all the parties have to move, including the EU. We feel that a breakthrough is possible and the EU is ready to do its part. This is why Pascal Lamy and I have launched a new initiative to kick-start the talks. We have sent a letter to all WTO ministers to make our position clear. A bold move from the EU side on Singapore issues, on a special treatment for the weaker developing countries and on agriculture is on offer, if the others match our ambition. Everybody knows that agriculture is key to progress in the Round. In our letter we make clear that we are showing commitment to move. On market access, the positions of the different WTO members are miles apart. There is no magical solution to this problem. This means that if we want to be successful, we need a compromise in the form of a blended formula for farm tariff reductions. A blended formula is clearly the middle ground between the Uruguay Round formula favoured by the EU and 70 other members and the Swiss Formula advocated by others.

Illegal Sales of Endangered Species Up in New York, Down in San Francisco NY City Council Today Proposes Law to Crack Down on Sales 18 May 2004, New York... An undercover survey of traditional Chinese medicine shops in New York City and San Francisco found illegal products widely available made from endangered species, including tigers, rhinos, leopards and musk deer. TRAFFIC found that most of the 60 stores visited offered at least one product containing an endangered species. The availability of tiger and rhino products, the focus of much legal and conservation attention in recent years, has decreased significantly in San Francisco since a similar survey in 1997, but availability remains high in New York City. more IUCN/SSC and TRAFFIC launch project to review CITES proposals 13 May 2004...
