NCRTEC Lesson Planner
This Web site is intended to help teachers write focused lesson plans. The Planner addresses essential questions that are often overlooked when planning curriculum units. Teachers bring their own content and are guided through each section by answering specific questions. The result is a comprehensive lesson plan aligned with standards that addresses assessment, content, teaching strategies and use of technology. To use the Planner:
  • Gather curriculum, content, and resources you will be using.
  • Answer the questions in the Planner.
  • Print the final lesson plan! No information that you enter here is stored by NCRTEC. Follow the instructions for saving the lesson plan to a disk.
  • The final step (#8) is Lesson Evaluation and Teacher Reflection. This reflection should be completed after the lesson has been taught.

Curriculum Framework
This curriculum unit is standards-based and organized around "big ideas" (concepts, principles, and enduring understandings) that cut across and transfer to other subject areas. Enduring understandings, as defined by Wiggins and McTighe, refer to important ideas or core processes that have lasting value beyond the classroom. To determine enduring understandings, teachers are encouraged to ask: What do we want students to understand and be able to use several years from now, after they have forgotten the details.

Look to the tool and test links to gain a focus of your abilities, skills and challenges in utilizing spreadsheets in your classroom. Self-Assessment Tool Tests of Computer Skills As a past science teacher and teacher of the accelerated reading program I found spreadsheets very useful. As I struggled with abstractions and unknowns something my students often also did. I found the use of spreadsheets and spreadsheet applications as rewarding excellent tools. They define and clarify numbers that would not have been noticed without spreadsheet utilities. For example, statistics in graph form, tracking of numerical relationships, grading period statistics and even comparative years of accelerated reading data brought elusive clarity to individual students in their growth or lack of it.
