THE HISTORY OF EQUESTRIAN SPORTS IN NEW ZEALAND The Governing Body of Equestrian Sport in this Country is the New Zealand Equestrian Federation
Each discipline - horse trials (or eventing), show jumping and dressage - independently administers its own affairs, with representatives from each on the NZEF Council, and on the Federation Committee. Any person competing must be a member and horses must be registered for official competitions. The New Zealand Horse Society was founded in 1950, to administer what was then the new Federation Equestrian Internationale show jumping sport - hitherto in this country, jumping had been of the "round the ring " variety, and most of its adherents hunted in winter. Dressage and horse trials were unknown as such. Overseas in Europe, the heart of all three disciplines, the majority of the competitors were cavalry officers although there had been some prominent civilian show jumping riders in Britain in the 20's, 30's and 40'5 up until the second world war. By the late 1940's, and particularly after the Olympic Games in London, show jumping started to attract civilians, and the Duke of Beaufort made Badminton available for the British eventors to " and better their dismal 1948 Olympic performance. Dressage was still a European sport.

A Brief History of Vaulting Some trace the origins of vaulting to Roman games, including acrobatic displays on cantering horses. Others see roots in the bull dancers of ancient Crete. In either case, it is clear that people have been performing acrobatic and dance-like movements on the backs of moving horses for something like 2000 years. There are numerous references to vaulting or similar activities through the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and it seems apparent that present-day gymnastics performed on the "vaulting horse" were developed from the actual sport of vaulting - allowing concentration on the gymnastics without (unfortunately) the horse. Modern vaulters use a "vaulting barrel" to similarly practice the movements and programs they will perform on the horse, and Barrel Fests are popular in the late winter and early spring, when the weather is uncertain. The present name of the sport comes from the French "La Voltige" which it acquired during the Renaissance, when it was a form of riding drill and agility exercise for knights and noblemen. Perhaps vaulting's most prominent recognition as a form of equestrian sport in more recent times was its inclusion (as "Artistic Riding" by cavalry officers) in the 1920 Olympic Games. Vaulting was demonstrated by the AVA at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and the beauty and grace of equestrian vaulting were presented again in

The Summer Paralympic Games are the ultimate competition for world class elite athletes with a disability and as such are linked to the Olympic Celebration each quadrennium. The Paralympic Games, in terms of complexity, duration and the number of competitors, are second only to the Olympic Games.
The fundamental philosophy guiding the Paralympic movement is that athletes with disabilities should have opportunities to pursue their goals in sport equivalent to those of non-disabled athletes. Athletes who compete in the Paralympics set their sights on the dream of winning a gold medal, are committed to strenuous training regimes and meet strict qualifying standards to be selected to their national team. The Paralympic Games represent a commitment to excellence that allows elite athletes to achieve their personal best. The Paralympic Games exemplify the Olympic ideal of participation and sportsmanship.

Olympics History Origin Of Modern Olympic Games Inflaming the inspiration and enthusiasm from the Ancient Olympic Games , which were conducted every four years between 776 BC and 393 AD in Olympia, Greece until forbidden by Emperor of Greece in 393 AD, the Modern Olympic Games were started in 1896 at Athens, Greece under the initiation and leadership of a French educationalist Baron Pierre de Coubertin. DISCIPLINES Archery: Like so many other sports Archery is a game of Egyption origin. It originated probably in the pre-historic period through primitive men, who used it either for self - defence or for food by killing animals. In the later centuries men used bows. Ancient Hindu Epics, tell of the heroic wars where Lord Rama and Arjuna, to quote a few, played important roles in the field of Archer which gradually turned into a discipline in the Modern Olympics. Although Archery featured in the Modern Olympics in 1900 at Paris, 1904 at St. Luis, 1908 at London and 1920 Antwerp Olympic Games, it was discontinued till the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.
