Thousands of people across the city took to the streets, school yards, parks and ravines to clean up Toronto during the 20-Minute Toronto Makeover and Mayor Miller's Community Clean-Up Day. More than 30,000 people registered to participate in the 20-Minute Makeover and more than 14,000 people signed up to take part in the Community Clean-Up event Environment watch The City's fleet is going green!
The Administration Committee adopted the Green Fleet Transition Plan at it's April meeting, the Plan will now go forward for consideration at Council's May 2004 meeting. If adopted by Council, the City has the opportunity to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 23 per cent over the four years of the plan. The 2004 Environment Days are underway!
Get ready to clean out your basement, closets and garage of all the items you no longer use. Learn more about the various items you can drop off, pick up and purchase at an Environment Day event near you. Environment Days are your opportunity to divert waste and make your home waste and energy efficient. Head out to one this weekend!

the importance of early and extensive consultation; early signals of the choice of instrument and details of the tax rate or other measure, to provide sufficient lead times for households and businesses to plan changes and make the necessary investment; and exploring revenue neutral packages to reduce excessive impacts on business competitiveness and specific groups, as well as supporting new technologies to reinforce the behavioural change.

Materials (1,000 points max.) For the first time, the Federal Environmental Agency (UBA) has calculated a characteristic value which reflects developing trends in German environmental protection in a single figureÂthe German Environment Index, or DUX ( Deutscher Umwelt Index ) for short. The DUX is comprised of various values stemming from the Environment Barometer for Germany on climate, air, soil, water, energy and raw materials. WhatÂs the purpose of the DUX? As a striking indicator, the DUX allows environmental policy to be checked, set goals have more binding force, and it clarifies the need for action. It does not describe the state of the environment in Germany, but rather illustrates the degree to which environmental policy goals have been achieved in important critical areas. How did the DUX originate?

Air Quality Chemicals Climate Change Consumer Products ... Other material Our aim is to protect and improve the environment, and to integrate the environment with other policies across Government and in international fora. Effective protection of the environment requires activity on many wide-ranging different fronts - for example, from acting to limit global environmental threats (such as global warming) to safeguarding individuals from the effects of poor air quality or toxic chemicals. It is one of the four objectives of sustainable development. Actions to protect the environment also produce benefits such as housing (through improved energy efficiency of buildings), social progress (through action to combat fuel poverty) and economic growth (through more efficient use of resources, such as re-use, recycling and recovery of waste).

Environmental Education Institutions The International Directory on Environmental Education Institutions is one of UNESCO's efforts to develop an international information network to facilitates an exchange of information, knowledge and materials on Environmental Education and Education for a Sustainable Future at large. This electronic version of the UNESCO Directory, offers a comprehensive list of EE training and research Institutions around the world. These comprise universities, research institutions, NGOs, training institutions and others. The basis for this directory was prepared in cooperation with UNEP and a first edition was published in 1971 with revisions in 1981 and 1989. Since then, Environmental Education has faced many changes in name and content and new institutions have adopted training and research programmes on environmental issues. To reflect these changes we found it necessary to publish a further version of the directory in 1995. We are now in the process of preparing a complete, up-do-date version for publication in English, French and Spanish, within the next two years for which we strongly depend on your corrections and/or comments A short description of the content:
