Environmental Reports The 21st century is being called the "Environment Century" and at NEC Infrontia we take very seriously our role in helping to protect the environment. NEC Infrontia has taken the following measures to better promote an "ecological society" society. Between December 1998 and December 1999 the international ISO14001 standard for environment management systems was obtained for all of our domestic and overseas production companies. We are promoting planned and sustainable environment control activities such as energy saving, recycling, waste reduction and management of chemical materials. Conventional product assessments are being further improved to provide "green products" with environment considerations. Since the second half of 1999, NEC Infrontia has been taking concrete actions such as expanding the inspection of the chemical substances found in parts and materials, further promoting energy savings and adopting lead-free soldering policies. In order to comply with the "Home Appliance Recycling Law" that will take effect in April 2001, NEC Infrontia has been working on designs promoting easier recovery, dismantling, and sorting.

HOME Environmental Initiatives Activities to Promote Occupational Safety and Accident Prevention The Toray Group pays great attention to basics in its safety activities. 21st Toray Group Safety Presentaion Meeting in Japan(November 14,2004) Every year, the Toray Group holds the "Toray Group Safety Presentation Meeting in Japan." At this meeting, efforts are made to share related information among all the members of the group: for example, Toray's president gives instructions directly on the policy of placing top priority on safety and the environment, and the representatives of the Group's companies and plants report on their own safety activities. The Group also carries out overall safety management activities by, for example, ensuring that all the employees are made aware of Toray's policy and the Group's situation through Toray's "Safety, Health and Environment Committee" and its affiliates' "Safety, Health, Accident Prevention and Environment Conferences." In addition, the Group shares information concerning the industrial accidents of its member companies by means of accident report sheets, thereby working to prevent the recurrence of similar accidents.
The total number of industrial accidents (both those resulting in absence from work, and others) of the Toray Group in 2002 was 28. Of these, five occurred at Toray and 13 at its domestic affiliates, which were the same figures as those of the previous year. The number of accidents at its overseas affiliates was 10 - a record low, and similar to the level of Toray itself.

the adverse effects that the product may have on the environment even after The CompanyWideProduct Safety Committee follows up the activities of the divisions
http://www.toray.co.jp/english/environment/html/env_b009.html
HOME Environmental Initiatives Activities for Product Safety Toray is striving to ensure product safety with a well-managed system centering around the Product Safety Committee. In 1994, Toray completely revised its in-house Product Safety Management Regulations and strengthened its product safety management system.
A product safety manager is appointed for each existing product to oversee management of the product's safety. Before new products are allowed to proceed to the production stage, they are required to pass a product safety review conducted by the director in charge of manufacturing. If any doubts concerning safety arise during the review, the Product Safety Review Council, which is composed of a chairperson appointed by the director in charge of manufacturing and independent experts from inside and outside the Company, will meet to review the situation and recommend measures, if considered necessary, before manufacture is allowed to proceed. The Council requires the manufacturing director to attach a check sheet assessing the product's impact on the environment to each proposed new product, and takes into consideration not only the product safety but also the adverse effects that the product may have on the environment even after being put on the market.
In FY March/2003, about 80 new products were subjected to the product safety review, of which about 30 were examined at the Product Safety Review Council.
