It looks at the differing and the common needs of living things (including human beings), their relationships with each other and with their surroundings. The significance of individual organisms within ecosystems is explored, as are the consequences of human influence. The package was designed to be taught within the school science curriculum, but would also satisfy other curriculum requirements, such as art, language and geography. It specifically fits within the guidelines for Key Stage 2 of the British National Curriculum. Many activities, experiments, discussions and games are suggested, to stimulate learning in different ways. The topics are all interrelated to compliment one another. Extracts from different sections of the package can be viewed online (below) . The whole package can be downloaded (free) as a series of Word documents. These are formatted ready for printing (around 15 pages in the teacher's guide and 15 pages of children's worksheets). Ecological Education - What's the point?

Now, the Ricoh Group is preparing to enter the Responsible Stage of sustainable management, in which it pays equal attention to environmental conservation and deriving economic benefits. As a global citizen and a company, it is necessary to ensure profitability in all environmental conservation activities. The Ricoh Group, based on its environment management information system , checks its achievements from environmental and economic viewpoints and identifies the issues that need more attention to ensure continuous improvements in its defined sustainable management.

Support for the United Nations University
In 1996 the United Nations University began a three year project entitled "Environmental Monitoring and Analysis in the East Asian Region: Technology Transfer and Environmental Governance" with the aim of tackling the worsening environmental pollution around the world. Shimadzu supported this project with a donation of funds (approx. 86 million yen), the loan of 6 types of Analytical Instruments (approx. 70 million yen), and the provision of support for analytical work. The aim of this project is to standardize the analytical technology required to monitor the concentration of chemical pollutants present in the drinking water, foods, soil and atmosphere of the East Asian region. Eight countries - Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam - are participating in this project.

Introduction to Environmental Protection
Air Quality Chemicals Climate Change Consumer Products ... Other material Our aim is to protect and improve the environment, and to integrate the environment with other policies across Government and in international fora. Effective protection of the environment requires activity on many wide-ranging different fronts - for example, from acting to limit global environmental threats (such as global warming) to safeguarding individuals from the effects of poor air quality or toxic chemicals. It is one of the four objectives of sustainable development. Actions to protect the environment also produce benefits such as housing (through improved energy efficiency of buildings), social progress (through action to combat fuel poverty) and economic growth (through more efficient use of resources, such as re-use, recycling and recovery of waste).
