Fossil Energy Education Activities
DOE's Office of Fossil Energy has had a longstanding commitment to the education of tomorrow's scientists and engineers. More than a quarter of a century ago, the Office established a coal research grant program specifically for student-professor research teams at the nation's universities. Our educational commitment expanded with a program to provide research and training grants to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other minority institutions. In 2000, a new fellowship program was inaugurated to bring promising minority students to DOE-Fossil Energy facilities for summer internships.

Bureau of Indian Affairs
The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) responsibility is the administration and management of 55.7 million acres of land held in trust by the United States for American Indians, Indian tribes, and Alaska Natives. There are 562 federal recognized tribal governments in the United States. Developing forestlands, leasing assets on these lands, directing agricultural programs, protecting water and land rights, developing and maintaining infrastructure and economic development are all part of the agency's responsibility. In addition, the Bureau of Indian Affairs provides education services to approximately 48,000 Indian students. The BIA website as well as the BIA mail servers have been made temporarily unavailable due to the Cobell Litigation. Please continue to check from time to time. We have no estimate on when authorization will be given to reactivate these sites.

Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Program
The Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Program is the largest global change research program supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) . It was created to help resolve scientific uncertainties related to global climate change, with a specific focus on the crucial role of clouds and their influence on radiative feedback processes in the atmosphere. The primary goal of the ARM Program is to improve the treatment of cloud and radiation physics in global climate models in order to improve the climate simulation capabilities of these models. ARM's scientists research a broad range of issues that span remote sensing, physical process investigation and modeling on all scales. ARM's site operators focus on obtaining continuous field measurements and providing data products to promote the advancement of climate models.
ARM Climate Research Facility
ARM's climate research sites serve as a national scientific user facility for collaborative research primarily with university, government agency, and national laboratory researchers. These sites provide significant research capability for the global scientific community. The resulting new

Welcome to the CIAC Hoax Pages
Last modified: 05/10/04
You are the 15679765th visitor to the CIAC Internet Hoax and Chain Letter pages since February 1995. Interspersed among the junk mail and spam that fills our Internet e-mail boxes are dire warnings about devastating new viruses, Trojans that eat the heart out of your system, and malicious software that can steal the computer right off your desk. Added to that are messages about free money, children in trouble, and other items designed to grab you and get you to forward the message to everyone you know. Most all of these messages are hoaxes or chain letters. While hoaxes do not automatically infect systems like a virus or Trojan, they are still time consuming and costly to remove from all the systems where they exist. At CIAC, we find that we spend much more time de-bunking hoaxes than handling real virus and Trojan incidents. These pages describe some of the warnings, offers, and pleas for help that are filling our mailboxes, clogging our mailservers, and that generally do not have any basis in fact. In addition to describing hoaxes and chain letters found on the Internet, we will discuss how to
