HANDS-ON LEARNING
Introduction Hands-on learning provides learning by doinghelping a student to acquire knowledge and skills outside of books and lectures. Learning can occur through work, play and other life experiences. Accomplished teachers include plenty of hands-on learning experiences, especially in science and math, to ensure student understanding of new and unfamiliar concepts. Hands-on learning can also be used to drive assessment so that teachers can measure both factual knowledge and comprehension. The NBCTs represented in these videos demonstrate hands-on learning with manipulatives and experiments as they develop conceptual knowledge.

The Universe in a Different Light
An activity by Kara C. Granger related to: 'High-Energy Groove'
Activity Summary: Students will become aware of some of the objects studied in, and concepts associated with, high-energy astronomy. They will do this by participating in card games that teach and review these concepts. Objective: Students will realize the importance of observing the universe in many regions of the electromagnetic spectrum and understand some vocabulary terms associated with high-energy astronomy. Materials for each group of 12 students: Introduction: Some of the objects observed by, and concepts associated with, high-energy astronomy might be new to your students. However, it is essential to share the importance of observing the Universe at wavelengths other than the optical because each region of the spectrum sheds new light on our understanding of the cosmos. For example, some astronomical objects emit mostly infrared radiation, others mostly visible light, and still others mostly high-energy (such as X-ray) radiation. By studying objects at wavelengths other than optical, we are able to understand more about our Universe, including its structure and how it might evolve. Engagement: Some of the concepts contained in the lyrics of "High-Energy Groove" are captured in images in this activity plan. These images, along with the "Did you know?" text, and "I have... Who has..." text, can be used to construct and play two card games.

EPILEPSY AND SEIZURES -HOW NEW WAY HEALS THEM FAST AND PERMANENTLY
By Dr. Bernarr, D.C., D.D.
WHAT ARE EPILEPSY AND SEIZURES? Epilepsy and seizures are also known by the layman as "fits", "falling sickness" and by the ancients as the "sacred disease". The usual treatment is by drugs and/or surgery, to suppress, interfere with and destroy the symptoms. They are a group of neurological disorders characterized by recurrent episodes of convulsive seizures, sensory disturbances, abnormal behavior, loss of consciousness or all of these. Seizures affect about 2% of the population.
HOW DO EPILEPSY AND SEIZURES EFFECT ONE?
AVOID TREATING ITS SYMPTOMS. TO HEAL, REMOVE ITS CAUSE
To heal epilepsy, one must remove its cause. To just treat the epileptic's symptoms, does not permanently heal epilepsy. In treating the seizures, one is just treating the effects, not the cause. This seizure is but a symptom and exists for the protective benefit of the epileptic. This seizure symptom is the healing and detoxifying reaction of the inherent intelligence, the God within. This seizure is always controlled by the inherent intelligence. This is why the epileptic's symptoms should never be destroyed, interfered with and suppressed. The destruction, interference, and suppression of the epileptic's symptoms, prevents these inherent, protective bodily defenses from self-healing the epileptic. If the inherent intelligence cannot heal the epileptic's distresses, nothing and nobody else can. No destructive, interfering and suppressive therapy of any kind can heal the epileptic but only the inherent intelligence within the epileptic can heal.

ABOUT GAMMA RAY BURSTS
Gamma rays are an extremely powerful form of light. They are even more energetic than ultraviolet rays or x-rays. more
Our planet's atmosphere absorbs most gamma rays. Astronomers who wish to study gamma rays from space use satellites orbiting above Earth's atmosphere. more
Gamma ray bursts (GRBs) are powerful explosions in deep space that emit large amounts of gamma radiation. Astronomers still aren't sure what causes them. more Space satellites detect 1 or 2 gamma ray bursts every day. You can't see them with the naked eye, but they are there!

Recognizing Stress
Most people are exposed to much higher levels of stress than they realize.
Your Stress Scale
A self-test you can use to determine how much stress your are really facing.
Brain Chemical Messengers
Brain cells "talk to each other" by means of chemical messengers. When a person is exposed to too much stress, chemical communication in the brain begins to fail. When these messengers fail, a person suffers from sleep disturbance, aches and pains, depression and anxiety. This condition is called OVERSTRESS.
Three Happy Messengers
Three brain messengers control your sleeping, your energy levels, and your feelings of pain and pleasure.
Pick-Me-Up's
Chemicals from the grocery store shelf, as well as drugs, can temporarily restore your brain messenger function but not completely, and not for long. These substances are called "Pick-Me-Up's." Pick-Me-Up's are the WRONG way to handle overstress.
