"Energy Education Resources: Kindergarten Through 12th Grade " ( HTML PDF ), published by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), is a list of generally free or low cost energy related educational materials available for students and educators. This is the 15th Annual edition. The National Energy Education Development Project (NEED) is a network of students, teachers, community organizations, government agencies, and corporations that are dedicated to learning about energy. NEED is helping EIA maintain the EIA Kid's Site and make it fun and educational for students and teachers alike. DOE's Fossil Energy Web Site provides educational information on topics such as Energy (what it is); Oil and its history; Coal, our most abundant fuel; Natural Gas and its history; and an energy Glossary. Ask an Energy Expert is provided by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and welcomes questions on energy efficient and renewable energy technologies.

Manchester received $900 to develop a curriculum for sixth graders and teach them the economic and environmental benefits of alternative energy sources. She is making weekly visits to five sixth grade classes in North Kingstown and East Greenwich and leading students through a wide variety of hands-on energy activities. The program will end with a daylong workshop at URI in the spring when the students from all six classes work together on energy-related contests, view demonstrations of alternative energy sources, and create artistic interpretations of renewable energy.

    http://sln.fi.edu/tfi/units/energy/windguide.html
Educators throughout the country know The Franklin Institute Science Museum for its innovative teaching resources, both inside the museum and beyond its walls. Perhaps you have already used one of our units of study to teach science in your classroom. Our units of study are designed to stimulate critical thinking about the topic by both you and your students. Hands-on science with inquiry-based facilitation should motivate your students to achieve their goals. We have made our unit for Investigating Wind Energy available for you to use on your own. The activities take an inquiry approach. The series of activities is designed to be done in order, with each building on the previous. However, if you face time constraints, each activity can stand alone. Background The air of our atmosphere moves in many directions and at varying speeds. It can be as gentle as a spring breeze or as dangerous as a tornado. But did you ever wonder about wind? What forces cause air to move? What would Earth's environment be like without the global and local circulation of wind? Air is a fluid which moves in circuits, powered by unequal heating of large masses of air. As the Earth's surface is warmed differentially, the air above these surfaces absorbs different amounts of heat. Warmer air rises while cool air sinks which creates the environment for flowing air movement. Winds flow across parallels of latitude, taking heat from equatorial regions to polar regions. This equalizing process causes wind and is of major importance in determining the environments for life on land, global as well as local weather patterns, and a clean, inexpensive source of energy for humans.

We make energy audits in communal buildings (townhalls, schools, swimming pools). The energy saving potential in most cases is considerable, and many of the proposed measures have already been carried out by the local communities (insulation of the buildings, improvement of the heating systems, boiler-change, heat control etc.).
In some cases we could prove with feasibility-studies that despite considerable higher investment costs but low operating costs, wood heating systems should be installed.

Using the Learning Cycle to Teach Physical Science discusses and gives examples of a science teaching strategythe learning cyclethat emphasizes science as a process of inquiry rather than as a body of knowledge, and uses questions, activities, and experiences to guide students in constructing science concepts on their own. The first part of the book discusses the rationale for this approach and its use in teaching science. The second part then gives examples of how the cycle can be used to teach 6 basic physical science concepts: (1) Bernoulli's principle, (2) acids and bases, (3) properties of gases, (4) expansion and contraction of gases, (5) circuits, and (6) density.
