Welcome to the UVic IEEE Student Branch website! During your time as an engineering student, you will be developing valuable technical skills (through course work) and industrial experience (through co-op) for your future career. Membership in a professional organization such as the IEEE can further enrich your career.
What is the IEEE?
IEEE (the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is a worldwide technical professional society devoted to advancing the theory and application of electrical engineering, electronics and computing. Over the last 112 years, the IEEE has grown to be the world's largest technical professional society, with over 310,000 members in approximately 150 countries. The IEEE promotes the development of electrotechnology and allied sciences, the application of those technologies for the benefit of humanity, the advancement of the profession, and the well-being of its members.

IPCC 2003: The Shape of Knowledge
September 21-24, Orlando, Florida
News
Overview
Communication in the technical and professional realm involves giving shape to knowledge. As communicators and engineers, we synthesize information from many sources to create new practical knowledge. Engineers and subject matter experts give shape to knowledge, while professional communicators give new form to knowledge gained from such experts. We also creatively mine databases for inapparent knowledge. We respond to feedback from users, too, by reshaping existing knowledge. In these ways and more, we play a crucial role by transforming shapeless data into useful knowledge. We invite you to explore how professional and technical communicators and engineers give shape to knowledge in a wide range of technical fields. Share your knowledge, experience, and interests. Please join us at IPCC 2003 in Orlando, Florida, September 21-24, 2003 at Disney's

Welcome!
This is the U.C. Berkeley IEEE Student Branch, part of Region 6 (US - West). As an active organization on campus, we provide lab services, promote student professional awareness, participate in high school outreach programs, play a role as a backbone for student-industry networking, and plan student social activities to maintain balance with the technical atmosphere.
Announcements
The Digital Divide Project is having its very first onsite assignment: the Kappa School in Richmond. Anyone and everyone who wants to help in this project (crimping, manual labor, fixing the network) is encouraged to come on Saturday, November 22nd. We are leaving at 8:15am from Cory Hall and plan to be finished at noon. If you are at all interested, email Kedar Shah , the organizer of 'Digital Divide.' This Friday, October 3, 2003, IEEE UCB launches "Bridging the Digital Divide" sponsored by the Oakland East Bay Chapter (OEB) of IEEE. The Digital Divide is a social problem that afflicts all communities and the world at large. It is the subtle phenomenon of how restricted access to technology hinders the education and advancement those who are underprivileged. For more background on this topic, visit http://www.pbs.org/digitaldivide.index.html
