Lakeland is proud to be one of only a handful of colleges nationwide to offer a two-year degree program in electronics that is ABET accredited. Lakeland's electronic engineering technology program prepares students for a wide range of engineering and engineering related technician employment opportunities. This program trains students in computer technology, analog and digital circuits, instrumentation and process control, motor control, microprocessors, and programmable logic controllers. There are many benefits to the electronic engineering technology program. Lakeland is proud to be one of only a handful of colleges nationwide to offer a two-year degree program in electronics that is ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) accredited. Also, the computer and electronic laboratories at Lakeland provide students with extensive training using state-of-the-art equipment. Career and Profession
With a little thought most people can make a list of products and activities of the electrical and electronic engineering industry. The list would certainly include consumer electronics products like personal computers, mobile phones, microwave ovens, and digital video disks, and perhaps also public services like radio and TV broadcasting, or electricity transmission. But consumer products and even power stations are only a small part of the industry. Probably 90% of electrical, electronic and computer engineering, like all engineering, is not seen by the public - it's not secret, but it's unnoticed and taken for granted. Most electronics engineers are not designing consumer products but the electronic and computer systems that run the factories, not designing mobile phones but the networks and computers to operate the mobile phone systems. The electrical, electronic and computer engineering industry is principally concerned with providing the myriad of specialist electronic instruments and systems that make life safer, more convenient, more reliable, and more interesting. It's concerned with flight simulators and body scanners, global positioning satellites and remote sensors, computer information networks and safety-critical industrial control.

    FACULTY
    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION Electrical Engineering (power distribution, motors, generators) and Electronic Engineering (integrated circuits, digital and analog hardware, electromagnetic fields, communications, controls) requires the understanding and application of electrical, electronic, and magnetic phenomena. The Department offers a comprehensive program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Students receive a thorough grounding in mathematics and the basic sciences during their first four semesters. Engineering design and applications are stressed in upper division courses. Prospective students are urged to discuss their plans as early as possible with their high school or community college counselor and with the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department Chair who will advise students individually. In cooperation with the Department of Computer Science, a separate major in Computer Engineering is offered. Students deciding between Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Engineering as majors should also refer to the Computer Engineering section of this catalog.
