The Orion Mystery : Unlocking the Secrets of the Pyramids
by Robert Bauval, Adrian Gilbert (Contributor), Peter Ginna (Editor)
Using astronomical data about stellar movement, they argue that the Orion stars coincide exactly with the pyramids' positions in approximately 10,400 b.c.a period the Egyptians called the First Time, when they believed the god Osiris ruled the Earth. The authors also speculate that the mysterious space within the Great Pyramid discovered by Gantenbrink contains the mythical Benben stone, which the Egyptians linked to the creation of the world. One of the most intriquing and plausable theories that have come out lately. Worth reading.

A Trip to Egypt
Rafiah Shaikh, Ras Tanura KSA Aug. 2002 - I was so excited and little bit nervous when my father revealed his travel plans for us during school summer vacation that we will spend this summer in Egypt. I was excited because I always wanted to see those Pyramids, Museum and travel in the river Nile (the longest river of the world) and of course the main source of Egypt’s agriculture and water retirements. I was also nervous when I knew that my father was planning to go by Ferry from Jeddah so that we can see the Suez Canal. But later the plans changed and we traveled by air. Instead of going to too many details, I will give you some important information if any one of you is planning to visit Egypt. Following is the summary of important items:
  • There is no need to get visa for Egypt as the visitor’s visa is available at the airport at the cost of $15. The same amount is charged at Egyptian Embassy in Riyadh (SR60) if you are close to Riyadh area, otherwise airport visa is enough. Taxis are available at reasonable rates, but you will be asked more if the taxi driver knows that you are Saudi, Kuwaiti or Expats coming from the Gulf. It’s a good idea to ask any local person for the trip price and bargain with the driver.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/pyramid/explore/age3.html
It was only 150 years later, in the fourth dynasty of Egypt's Old Kingdom, that King Khufu commissioned the building of the largest pyramid of all, the Great Pyramid, which is the last remaining wonder of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is thought that in 816 AD Caliph al-Mamun first ordered workers to blast through the blocked stone entrance in order to explore within Khufu's pyramid. But looters, probably from dynastic Egyptian times, had already absconded with King Khufu's burial treasures and his body. This is true of all of the pyramids at Giza, so very little is known about Khufu or any of his successors who were buried at Giza. Archaeologists, nonetheless, continue to look for pieces of this puzzle to further our understanding of the Pyramid Age and the pharaohs that ruled Egypt.

Ancient scientists and Lost Civilations
By www.pravda.ru
Jan 26, 2004, 07:02 History reveals many instances when some discoveries surpassed their times. Such, for instance, was the case with a scientist named Schwerter (1636) who provided a detailed account of the main principle of telegraphy in his book "Mathematical and Technical Fun". He wrote "such is the method which enables communication between two distant parties by means of a magnetized needle." The first telegraph was created only 200 years later. There are numerous examples of fascinating knowledge of ancient scientists in various fields that continue to mesmerize present day researchers. One of the most bewildering puzzles that scientists face nowadays deals with construction of Egyptian pyramids. Each bloc of the famous Egyptian pyramid of Heops weighs 15-100 tons. Ceiling of the king's bedroom is made of a monolithic layer of red granite, which weighs 70 tons. Each one of those granite bloc is matched with extreme accuracy. Egyptian level of precision of dealing with such heavyweight stones exceeded that of modern day construction workers who work with blocs 300 times lighter by 10 times.

Saqqara Step Pyramid The Saqqara Step Pyramid in the ancient egyptian capital of Memphis, lies 20 miles southwest of Cairo. This is the oldest of the royal pyramids. It was built for King Djoser (Zoser: 2667 - 2648 BC), the second of the Third Dynasty pharaohs in the 27th-century B.C. by the architect Imhotep. The original structure was an underground burial chamber. This chamber was rare in that it was square; most mastabas were rectangular. The royal tomb is 28m underground with a vertical shaft leading to it. The entrance was sealed with a 3 ton piece of granite. The chamber walls have inscriptions that show beyond any doubt that this is indeed a burial chamber. It also contains offering rooms and most of the other features that were often found in both earlier and later tombs. The pyramid is composed of six receding layers on top of each other. A man can be seen standing to the right of center of its base.

Tell us about the mummification. 6th Grade Student, Natrona, PA, USA Mummification was only practiced in a few societies, with Egypt being the most prominent. In pre-dynastic times, the deceased were placed in shallow graves, in the fetal position. Burial in the desert conditions resulted in natural mummification. Once they started the new practice of constructing formal tombs for burial, some form of artificial mummification was needed. Mummification was highly developed, by Old Kingdom times. It became very elaborate by the late New Kingdom. It then required some seventy days to complete the process. Many of the best preserved royal mummies date from the New Kingdom. Less complex mummification versions were performed on ordinary citizens.
John Anthony West described in his book, The Travelers’ Key to Ancient Egypt , the process of a royal mummification as follows: (1) The brain extracted through the nostrils. (2) Removal of the viscera through an incision in the flank. (3) Sterilization of body cavity and viscera. (4) Viscera cleaned, treated, dehydrated, anointed, and coated with molten resin. (5) Body packed temporarily with natron (a naturally occurring mixture of carbonate, bicarbonate, chloride and sulphate of sodium, an effective dehydrating and preserving agent). (6) Body packed in natron for forty days. (7) Temporary packing materials removed. (8) Subcutaneous packing of limbs with sand, clay or other earthy material. (9) Body packed with resin-soaked linens, and fragrances such as myrrh and cinnamon. (10) Anointing with unguents. (11) Final treating and anointing of the body surfaces. (12) Elaborate wrapping in fine linen gauze, with innumerable amulets, magic symbols, and jewelry included in the wrapping.

The Similarities/ Differences Between Mesopotamian and Egyptian Inventions By: Keith And Nelson Mesopotamian Inventions
In this web page we will be talking about the differences and similarities between Egyptian and Mesopotamian inventions. We will mainly talk about what the inventions were called, and how they were used, and most importantly how they affected life then and how they do now. We think that if a lot of the inventions that they discovered weren't invented it would have a great effect on life today. A lot of the inventions that the two civilizations created were ahead of their time.
One of the Mesopotamian inventions was in form of writing, which they named "Cuneiform." The word cuneiform meant " wedge shaped. " The writing was originally made for taking an account of what they bought or sold. Cuneiform was written on clay tablets with a pointed reed which was called the stylus. The word cuneiform comes from the latin words: "cuneus," which means "wedge" and "forma," which means "shaped." Mesopotamia wrote on clay tablets while the clay was still wet. Writing allowed a lot of laws to be written. Other important things such as the recording important events, had a big part in life in the ancient world. It also made it easier for this day and age to understand what type of people the Mesopotamians were. The most important invention that was created in the ancient times is probably the wheel. The Sumerians, ( a civilization in ancient Mesopotamia) invented the wheel. The wheels were used to connect on chariots. It made it easier for them to get places faster. "It was one of the biggest inventions in history." This world would not be the same without the wheel. The wheel was used to move things without it being a heavy load. The wheel was probably the most important invention in from Mesopotamia.

A trilogy of Egypt: Part 1 - Cairo
Anyone interested in culture or history has Egypt on their list of top ten travel destinations. Egyptian monuments and architecture outdate most other places in the world and possess a style and grandeur that is seemingly impossible. This series of articles explores 3 travel destinations in Egypt; the focus here is Egypt's capital city Cairo. Egypt's history is vast, complex and influenced by many different societies. To entertain such a history is unrealistic in this article but to appreciate the attractions of the country, the following brief is offered. Egypt developed a politically organized society around 5000 BC. Two separate kingdoms developed around 4000 BC, one in the delta and one along the Nile. These were brought together under one pharaoh by approximately 3000 BC. From here the pharaohs ruled for 3000 years under 30 dynastic families. The pyramids at Giza were built during the phase of the agricultural Old Kingdom during the 3rd to the 6th dynasties, 3000 - 2000 BC. The history and development of Cairo is almost as old as Egypt itself spanning over 4000 years and under the influence of a vast array of civilizations and cultures. Depending on its rulers it frequently changed its name but the city itself survived whatever its denomination. Cairo's founders, the Ancient Egyptians, thrived for the majority of the centuries BC. There was Greek influence during this period but it was not until the Persian army invaded in 525BC that any other cultures became more significant in its history. Following Cleopatra's death in 30BC, Egypt fell under Roman control and existed as a Roman province rather than an Egyptian empire.

The Great Pyramids
How the Great Pyramid was built is a question that may never be answered. Herodotus said that it would have taken 30 years and 100,000 slaves to have built it. Another theory is that it was built by peasants who were unable to work the land while the Nile flooded between July and November. They may have been paid with food for their labor. The flooded waters would have also aided in the moving of the casing stones. These stones were brought from
