A While in Rome, she finds a beautiful young Englishwoman surrounded by a crowd in the Forum, lying unconscious. Prodding with the ferrule of her parasol (her usual procedure for handling difficult men), she takes charge and brings the girl to her hotel. Evelyn Barton-Forbes turns out to be the granddaughter of an earl, who was seduced and abandoned by her Italian drawing master and cast out by respectable society. Amelia briskly adopts her as a travelling companion, and they set off forthwith for Egypt, the land she has most longed to see. Crocodile on the Sandbank Most of the action takes place at the isolated site of Tell el Amarna, the capital of Akhenaten, the pharaoh who established a monotheistic religion, inaugurated a new realistic period in Egyptian art, and was the husband of Nefertiti (and Tutankhamen's father in law). Amelia and Evelyn attach themselves to the Emerson brothers, who are excavating the site; both ladies come to love Egypt, archeology, and perhaps some particular archeologists. Since there are no doctors south of Cairo, Amelia has provided herself with a lot of medical supplies; her expertise has earned her the title "Sitt Hakim", or Lady Doctor, from the Egyptians. Her multifarious skills prove invaluable at the camp on many occasions; and that's before a mummy starts haunting the ancient city.

Establishing a college for Egyptian archeology in Luxor
Egypt, Education, 2/2/2000 The council of South the Valley Egyptian university agreed on establishing a college for Egyptian archeology in Luxor city that includes a repair department, pharonic language, and Islamic and Coptic archeology.
The new college will be supplied with a different educational structure than the faculty of archeology affiliated to Cairo University, as special concern will be paid to practical training for students of the faculty with the foreign excavation missions which work in Upper Egypt.
The new college will also invite professors of Egyptology in Europe, the U.S.A., Canada and Japan to deliver lectures for students and professors of this faculty. Previous Stories:

Akhenaten - The Glory of the Aten Did Akhenaten suffer from Marfan's Syndrome? - Discovery Channel (CA) One of history's most enigmatic characters may be one step closer to being understood, thanks to the research of a fledgling Canadian
Egyptologist. Alwyn Burridge , an Egyptology doctoral student at the University of Toronto, has been
dogging the mystery of the strange appearance of Akhenaten, the "rebel pharaoh" who was one of history's first recorded monotheists. Her persuasive theory suggests he suffered from the genetic disease known as Marfan's syndrome, and not only offers insights into his odd physical characteristics and short lifespan, but into the philosophical and cultural revolution that he visited on the Egyptian society of his day.

THE GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA
Location: http://pharos.bu.edu/Egypt/Wonders/pyramid.html I would only recommend this document if anyone is looking for a specific example of a pyramid. It also describes the pyramid in detail. Once in this document, one is also able to observe other items from Egyptian culture such as a tomb or a piece of art. Julie Burke

Welcome to the Gallery of Egyptian Archeology
The North Wing of Nile Arts One of the most fascinating periods in the history of the world was the Amarna Period. From this period such house hold names as Nefertiti, Akhenaten, also spelled Ikhnaton, and Tutankhamen were born. Here we attempt to bring you a piece of this period through paintings that depict the many archeological finds of this time period. Amenhotep IV aka Ikhnaton, the son on Amenhotep III and Queen Tiye, became pharaoh a short time before his father's death. At this time, he was already married to Nefertiti, and had one daughter, Meritaten. Amenhotep believed that his God, Aten, was the only god, thus becoming the only pharaoh in the first, second or third dynasty to openly acknowledge and worship a single God. Ikhanton moved the capital of Egypt from Memphis to Akhetaten. He changed his name to Akenaten, and lived in his own capital city with his family, worshiping the singular God, and ignoring the priest that worshiped many Gods. The final days of these personages is shrouded in mystery. After the death of Akhenaten, Smenkhare becomes pharaoh for a short time. Following Smenkhare was king Tutankhaten or King Tut, who moved the capital back to Memphis. After the early death of Tutankhaten, early 20's, Aye becomes pharaoh, only to be ousted by General Horemheb.
You may double click on any image to see the painting enlarged.

"In every instance where the findings of archaeology pertain to the Biblical record, the archaeological evidence confirms, sometimes in detailed fashion, the historical accuracy of Scripture. In those instances where the archaeological findings seem to be at variance with the Bible, the discrepancy lies with the archaeological evidence, i.e., improper interpretation, lack of evidence, etc. not with the Bible."

research around
the world europe northern england ... Part IV Tell el-Amarna
The city of Akhehatun, the modern Tell el-Amarna, was founded by the monotheist pharaoh Akhenaten in the mid-fourteenth millennium BC, and occupied for perhaps less than half a century before the capital returned to Thebes. Recent excavations by Barry Kemp of the University of Cambridge and Paul Nicholson of the University of Cardiff have provided the opportunities for detailed palaeoecological analysis and examination of environmental change in the Nile valley in Middle Egypt. The project is on-going and a few preliminary observations are presented here. The Workmen's Village
The so-called Workmen's Village consists of groups of well-preserved structures apparently built to house the workers involved in the construction of the tombs of the XVIII Dynasty. The site lies at a distance of about 1.2 km from Akhenaten's short-lived capital, on the floor of one branch of a shallow Y-shaped valley in a low plateau, which runs out from the foot of the cliffs that surround the site. The most favoured explanation about the role of the site is that it housed workers and artists employed in the cutting and decorating of the rock-cut tombs, but the possible involvement specifically of this settlement in the building of the tomb of Akhenaten is complicated by the existence of a second, still unexcavated village a kilometre further east.
