2004 Ancient Egypt wall calendar (buy it directly from amazon.com) - NEW
This is the 2004 Ancient Egypt wall calendar by photograper Farrell Grehan, who publishes a variety of travel calendars. You'll enjoy this no matter if it reminds you of home, of a great vacation you've had or inspires you to dream of visiting Egypt's treasures one day real soon. The calendar size is 11.75" inches square ( = 30 x 30 cm).
An introduction to the history and culture of Pharaonic Egypt - NEW

This is an extensive site about ancient Egypt. Don't be fooled by deceptively short looking table of contents. Just click on 'dynasties' and you'll see what I mean! Profusely illustrated, this is the labor of love by André Dollinger. The site is searchable, too, and is rounded out by a useful glossary and Egypt related links..
Egypt Adventure 1999
Kevin from Canada toured Egypt for two weeks and shares his journal and plenty of great photographs on the Web. This is a great site for those who are thinking of joining a tourist tour: the site will give you a pretty good idea of what to generally expect. Everyone else can indulge in the pictures! They are big - take time for the visit.

Lets explore a bit. Suppose the Jewish date is accurate, but that the scholars have erred by 200 year, then Hatshepsut would probably be the Pharoah (Charles Pellegrino seems to think so, but place her around 1600) according to the standard cronology. This redating by 200 year places the Hykos as Pharoahs at the time of Joseph, out of power during slavery, and Hatshepsut at the time of the Exodus. The same result occurs if you assume the Jewish date to be wrong and date the exodus to 1500 instead, using the traditional Egyptian chronology. In each case, Akenatan is after the Exodus. Of course, the Israelites were monotheistic from the time of Avraham, so the date of Akenatan is really not all that relevent. If, however, the scholars are correct, and all of the rulers of Egypt ruled when they said, but the Jewish date is correct for the Exodus, then the Exodus occured during the reign of Horemheb, who reigned 1321-1293 BCE (according to Funk and Wagnall). He was the successor to King Tut, who followed Akenaton, the sun worshiper. The question arises when the Philistines, or Sea People invaded and were repelled, settling in Canaan, something that happened just prior to or doing the Exodus or at the latest, just prior to the entrance into Canaan. Most place this at 1212ish, was after it should have occured. Charles Pellegrino, on the other hand, says this took place in 1600ish, when Thera erupted, same time he dates the Ipwar papyrus. We will take a closer look at the connection between the Ipwar papyrus and the Sea People.

THE HISTORY OF EGYPT
About 5,000 years ago, a remarkable way of life, or civilization, grew up along the banks of the Nile River in Egypt. It flourished for over 3,000 years, longer than most other civilizations in the world's history. Egypt is among the most influential of Arab states. It lies between Africa and the Middle East. This ancient country holds a history of over 6,000 years and has many exciting attractions for travelers. The Pyramids, the Sphinx, the tomb of young King Tut are just a few attractions that interest and excite people of all ages. EGYPT'S CREATION Egyptian history begins around 3300 BC. This was when the Egyptians finally had enough symbols in their writing to record history. From 3100 BC inscriptions created a way for later Egyptians. It was also the time when the pharaoh, King Menes, created Egypt by uniting the two parts of Egypt, also known as Upper and Lower Egypt, into a single kingdom. He started Memphis in the north and Abydos in the south as his capital cities. A series of strong and able rulers established a well organized government. The calendar was introduced during this time and the sun-god Re was the most loved god-figure. Over time, authority began to disappear and Egypt was controlled by foreign princes. These rulers introduced the horses and chariots to Egypt.

Pyramids, Did the Jewish People Build Shana from Daytona Beach, FL wrote: Dear Rabbi, Hi, I am attending a community college in Daytona Beach before I go to Berkeley, and I have a couple questions concerning the angle my humanities teacher takes. He states that there was no great Exodus out of Egypt for the Jews because archaeologists could not find trash in the desert enough for the "supposed" thousands of Jews migrating out from Egypt. He also states that the Jews were not slaves in Egypt. He admits to there being a small caste of Jews that were slaves, but not on the popular belief scale. I am the only Jew in class because he asked any Hebrew to raise their hand and mine was the only one that went up, so I stand alone when I ask him and question him. If you could give me any information about this I would feel better about the subject. These are only a few of the things my teacher has said that has made me anxious and on guard. Thank you.
