It is especially important for elementary credential candidates and others to be aware of the impact of any regulatory and/or statutory revisions to these requirements. Updates on these issues will be posted to the State Board of Education and Commission websites when available. Demonstrating content knowledge in a subject area is one of the statutory requirements for the California Single Subject Teaching Credential. California law provides two options for meeting this subject matter competence requirement: a) completion of a Commission-approved program of course work in the subject area, or b) passage of the Commission-approved content area examination. The examinations used contain both multiple-choice and constructed response components. The single subject area examinations are also an option for satisfying the subject matter requirement for the Education Specialist Instruction Credential.

We have used Excel workbooks and ancillary material in Principles of Economics II (microeconomics) and in International Economics. In each case, the approach is to write a Study Guide for each chapter. The Study Guide provides a set of instructions, directing the user to open a specific workbook and to conduct and report the results of specific exercises. We often use the workbooks in class to illustrate the relevant principles.
