Is Transition Possible or Can Socialist Professors of Economics Teach Capitalism?
Lest you hold your breath to the end of this article - the answers to both questions in the title are no and no. Capitalism cannot be "learned" or "imported" or "emulated" or "simulated". Capitalism (or, rather, liberalism) is not only a theoretical construct. It is not only a body of knowledge. It is a philosophy, an ideology, a way of life, a mentality and a personality. Lest you hold your breath to the end of this article - the answers to both questions in the title are no and no. Capitalism cannot be "learned" or "imported" or "emulated" or "simulated". Capitalism (or, rather, liberalism) is not only a theoretical construct. It is not only a body of knowledge. It is a philosophy, an ideology, a way of life, a mentality and a personality.
This is why professors of economics who studied under Socialism can never teach Capitalism in the truest sense of the word. No matter how intelligent and knowledgeable (and a minority of them are) - they can never convey the experience, the practice, the instincts and reflexes, the emotional hues and intellectual pugilistics that real, full scale, full blooded Capitalism entails. They are intellectually and emotionally castrated by their socialist past of close complicity with inefficiency, corruption and pathological economic thinking.
This is why workers and managers inherited from the socialist-communist period can never function properly in a Capitalist ambience. Both were trained at civil disobedience through looting their own state and factories. Both grew accustomed to state handouts and bribes disguised as entitlements, were suspicious and envious at their own elites (especially their politicians and crony professors), victims to suppressed rage and open, helpless, degrading dependence. Such workers and managers - no matter how well intentioned and well qualified or skilled - are likely to sabotage the very efforts whose livelihood depends on.

    Teachers have long recognized the value of students reading accounts of historical events written in the words of those who were there. Excerpts from James Madison's journals kept during the Constitutional Convention is a typical example of the primary sources that teachers use to explain how the Constitution was developed and how it is interpreted today. But the Internet opens the way to an enormous range of resources. For instance, imagine reading Tacitus's eyewitness account of the burning of Rome, including the descriptions of "terrified, shrieking women" and "helpless old and young" fleeing the conflagration, or Corporal E. C. Nightingale's frightening memories from on the deck of the battleship Arizona in 1941.     The School of Economics was formed in 1998. It incorportates the former Departments: Agricultural and Resource Economics was founded in 1957. It is now the premier academic centre for training and research in agricultural and resource economics in Australia and a national leader in the development of both agricultural and resource economics curricula. Its training and research programs have established an international reputation comparable with the major academic centres of Europe and North America. Economics offers units to students enrolled in a number of degrees within the University. There is increasing involvement in inter-disciplinary teaching; members of Economics teach cooperatively with members of other departments and schools, and teach units within the postgraduate programs of Public Policy, Peace Studies and Business Administration. Econometrics was founded in 1966 as the Department of Economic Statistics. In 1982 the name was changed to Econometrics to reflect the term which is commonly used for the discipline. It offers quantitative units in all degrees in the Faculty of Economics, Business and Law and in a variety of post graduate programs.   • The stock market is important in the operation of the American economic system. Companies sell stock to raise funds for improvements and expansions.
    The stock market also plays a critical role in personal financial planning. Not only do many individuals directly purchase shares of stock as part of their personal financial strategies, most Americans have a large stake in the stock market through their retirement programs. Investments in common stocks have proven to be an excellent long-run strategy in retirement planning, compared to alternatives such as savings accounts, government securities, corporate bonds, precious metals, works of art, rare coins, and stamps, and even baseball cards.
    The stock market dramatically illustrates how prices are (almost instantaneously) determined through the interaction of supply and demand in an auction-like environment.
    Finally, people of all ages find the stock market interesting. In both fact and fiction, fascinating stories of winning and losing vast fortunes in the stock market abound.
