The 1997 Easter Gathering
by Andy Bettis ( andyb@isltd.insignia.com For many years now there has been an Easter Gathering in Britain, a chance for established and 'emerging' teachers and musicians to get together for a long weekend (the Friday and Monday are public holidays here) of dancing, playing and just hanging out together. This year was my fifth time and this is my own personal record of what went on, a set of memories and recollections rather that an official report. After a year away I thought I'd give it another go; it would be nice to dance with Laura without having to do lots of teaching, if I stayed at home I'd probably just stay in and catch up on chores, and the Easter festival still has a lot of magic for me - a time of death, birth and emergence, tied to an arcane and inexplicable dating method rather than a fixed astronomical event. Plus there was a new team in charge with new ideas about structure and layout; facilitators for the shared dance sessions, opportunities for people to lead short workshops rather than just one dance, more than one workshop going on at the same time, etc. etc. With fingers crossed we sent off a joint deposit. Laura and I set off early on Friday morning, avoiding what we later learned was a plague of traffic on the previous day. The drive took around two and a half hours, mostly on thinly-filled motorways but ending up with an interesting tour on some tiny country lanes. I love the idea of passing through 'transition' zones on a journey and this had all the hallmarks of a different reality; a half-hidden signpost, strange junctions (we crossed one where five roads just met with no signs or road markings), odd buildings (a huge church in the middle of nowhere), and unexpected fellow travellers, in this case a large, black-clad motorcyclist who suddenly appeared and roared past us. Eventually our destination came into view and we drove into the village on (what else?) a road that we'd never used before.

How Did Pagan Customs Mix into Christmas and Easter?
It began hundreds of years ago, when the Church changed the Bible. . .
Many modern traditions of Christian holidays do not originate from Christianity itself. These customs are not "harmless" sources of joy, but rather cause invisible spiritual damage to the souls of family members and other loved ones. What is the source of such customs as adorning Christmas trees with lights, decorating with pine branches, holly, mistletoe, and yule logs, or exchanging gifts? Indeed, why is Christmas celebrated in late December, a time that Jesus certainly was not born? And from where did the name "Easter" come, together with the 40-day fast of Lent and the Easter egg? All of these strange customs originated in ancient forms of idol-worship, including the Egyptian cult of Isis, the Syrian and Babylonian cults of Astarte (or "Ishtar"), the Greek cult of Dionysus, the Roman festivals of Saturnalia and the sun, the cults of the Druids in England, and others. Such pagan cults were notorious for practicing witchcraft, forced prostitution, self-mutilation, human sacrifice to false gods, and even burning children alive. In other words, the Church accepted its holiday traditions from ancient Egypt, Babylon, Greece, and Romeenemies of G-d who fought bitterly against His Word and were condemned by such Biblical prophets as Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel for their wickedness.

Thu, 29 Mar 2001 14:12:08 -0500 I do not celebrate Easter with my class and I don't think that they are getting the message that I don't deal with complex issues. When it comes to holidays like Christmas, Chanukah, Easter, Passover, etc. I respond to children's comments but I do not lead a lesson focused around them. Yes, we need to understand all points of view. However, we do not, as instructors, need to find ways to creatively teach about them. If children draw/paint pictures or write stories about specific family celebrations, great. However, I don't feel that it's my role to have everyone make pictures of the Easter bunny. I feel that there is a difference. Just my opinion, Gail : I believe we need to deal with what is real in the lives of children. children celebrate Easter in some form or other. Calling it a spring celebration or ignoring it altogether teaches children that we do not deal with complex issues. Instead we ignore them and pretend they do not

Wed, 28 Mar 2001 20:50:41 EST I believe we need to deal with what is real in the lives of children. Most children celebrate Easter in some form or other. Calling it a spring celebration or ignoring it altogether teaches children that we do not deal with complex issues. Instead we ignore them and pretend they do not exist. Yes, it is Biblical. Therefore in a public school setting it must be dealt with carefully with an underlying understanding for all points of view. Children can deal with this. It is the adults I wonder about.

EASTER 3: 14 MARCH 2002 Luke 24:13-35 1 Peter 1: 17-23 PREPARATION We do not come into this house cautiously, with some vague hope in a kindly Divinity. We come boldly in the name of Jesus Christ, whom "God raised from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope may be confident in God" Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Let earth and heaven rejoice and celebrate Love’s victory! PRAYER OF APPROACH God of the ever-living Christ Jesus, our words of praise are not enough. The poverty of our best sentences, and the inadequacy of our sacred songs, frustrates our attempts to worship you as you deserve. We say we extol you, we praise you, we glorify you. Gladly we sing out our love and adoration for you. Yet we have not expressed even a fraction of the wonder that throbs in our hearts. O God of Jesus and our God, you are that holy Beauty that will always leave us gasping, yet never leave us unloved. All glory be to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen! CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE Holy Friend, awesome in beauty and love, mercifully look upon us. In one glance you see our complete lives, not strung out along a time line like a film, but fully present. You see us giving our best and giving our worst, our enthusiasm and our waning, our courage and our cowardice, our cleverness and our stupidity. In one glance you see our fluctuating faith, our spasmodic prayers, our arrogant dogmatism, and our timid hopes.

Feeling Happy
Hearing Beer chillin in the fridge, LOL! Happy Easter!!! "Hoppy" Easter J Land! It's 1:30am on Easter Sunday. Ahhhhhhh beer ::gulp, gulp:: Okay, you guys DO know I'm just kidding don't you? I know, I know, I joke around about it so much that some of you probably really do wonder about me. Not to fear, I enjoy my cold brews but I'm not nearly as bad as I make myself sound (well... not usually anyway ;-) Promise I'll wait to get started until breakfast at least (yes, I'm just kidding again!) Although "Beer, the breakfast of champions" does sound kind of catchy don't you think? LOL :-) The kids were so excited they couldn't get to sleep tonight and it's no wonder. I make such a big deal out of holidays. I can never figure out why they get so worked up and then I realize I'm the one who starts it all! I get way too carried away with childhood "magic" at the holidays. Speaking of, I'm having too many contradictory thoughts going through my head. It's something I seem to do quite often lately. I can't even decide if I'm totally wishy-washy or just very open minded (see what I mean) and I can't decide if I want to write about these things or not (see what I mean again! LOL).

Oneida - Secret Wars Oneida: Each One Teach One (2002) x CD Ugh!

KILL THE EASTER BUNNY
The Lord is after your Easter bunny. Will you let him kill it? God wants to
bless His people with a deep understanding of His Holy Word. Will we let God
show us life through death? In this case by letting the cross of Christ kill
our Easter Bunny? For as Hosea 4:6-8 says:
"...my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge Because you have rejected
knowledge, I also reject you as priests... The more the priests increased, the
more they sinned against me; they exchanged their Glory for something
disgraceful."
It has now been several years since God had us start sending out tracts on
Easter or First Fruits. They were sent especially to the "priests", but they continue to refuse to change Easter back to First Fruits. They continue to hold onto and defend Easter bunnies, colored eggs and gathering sweets for self. How the church seems to love the "disgraceful" Easter Bunny over the "Glory" of First Fruits. Those who read this tract, let the Holy Spirit move you to call your church to repentance! How many blessings the church is

John The Holy Spirit will teach you everything. v25. In this final moment withhis disciples, Jesus is able to teach them some very powerful truths.
http://www.wollongong.apana.org.au/~fin/studyg/easter5cgt.html
John
The Holy Spirit will teach you everything. 14:22-31
Introduction
Chapters 13 to 17 of John's gospel cover Jesus' farewell discourse with his disciples. In 14:18-31 Jesus speaks of his going to the Father, which going enables the coming of the Holy Spirit, both to manifest Jesus again to his disciples and teach them all things.
The passage v22. Judas (not Iscariot - possibly the brother of James) is puzzled. He thought that Messiah would inevitably manifest (display himself) in glory before all humanity. He therefore asks how it is that Messiah will only manifest himself to the disciples, and not the world. v23. Jesus' answer is that he (together with the Father) only manifests himself (in the sense of comes to, makes his home with, enters into a permanent intimate relationship with) to those who love him and obey his teachings. In the context of the gospel, "obey" (lit. "keep my word") means "believes in", "comes to" Jesus. v24. The opposite point is made. The person who does not love, does not keep Jesus' words, ie. does not believe (and of course, visa versa). The listeners are then reminded that Jesus' word is not just his, but comes from the Father. It is therefore authoritative. v25. In this final moment with his disciples, Jesus is able to teach them some very powerful truths. Yet, this is not the end of his teaching ministry.

Let us pay heed to the Epistle for Easter Day, Colossians 3:1-11, wherein we are urged to live on earth out of our citizenship of the realms above. We believe, teach and confess that Jesus Christ was crucified, died, was buried, descended into hell and was raised from the dead and exalted into heaven, We believe, teach and confess that Jesus died for us to make Atonement for our sins and to reconcile us to God the Father; we believe that he descended into the realm of the dead, even to the depths of hell, to proclaim the victory of his Cross to all who had died before him; we believe that he was raised for our justification so that we might be truly forgiven and become the adopted children of his Father, enjoying communion with him unto ages of ages. Having affirmed these basic truths we are ready to hear and take to heart, the exhortation of the apostle Paul.

How the Church celebrates Easter
'One Great Sunday' Several years ago, an informal survey of workshop participants asked, "Which feast do Catholics generally consider to be more significant, Christmas or Easter?"
Their answer?
Christmas in terms of family lives and cultural customs in general; but Easter in terms of the life of faith.
The Easter Season can go by many different names Paschal Time, Eastertide, or the days of "Pentecost" (a Greek word meaning 50 days).
In the renewal which followed Vatican II, as the Church re-examined how it celebrated the liturgy and sacraments, it considered how such celebrations had evolved over the centuries, and decided to "bring back" some of the emphases and practices of early Christianity.
One of those seasons re-examined and renewed was Easter.
In the early Church, the liturgical calendar began and ended with Easter, notes Sr. Sandra DeGidio, OSM, in an article for Catholic Update. In fact, the Church's liturgical calendar as a whole is actually a Resurrection-based calendar, she adds. Easter was also "one feast day" but one that lasted for 50 days.

EASTER MESSAGE

by
Bishop Dr. Munib A. Younan
The Lutheran Bishop in Jerusalem WHO WILL ROLL THE STONE AWAY?
Easter Gospel: Mark 16:1-8 As the Christian Church celebrates Easter this year, I have been asked, "What kind of message will you offer your people? What viable hope can you give?" On this Easter Day I feel as if I am walking with the three women - Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome. I feel I am walking with them to the tomb of the crucified Jesus, and a big stone has been rolled in front of the cave to protect the body from predators. I feel I am going with the three women to perform the traditional anointing of the dead Jesus. As I approach the burial cave early Sunday morning with Salome and the two Marys, I ask with them:
WHO WILL ROLL THE STONE AWAY FROM THE ENTRANCE OF THE TOMB?
