TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL
by godfrey moase
The former Xavier College student is currently completing a double degree in Commerce and Information Systems at the University of Melbourne. James could be like any other young Australian, except that he was the Victorian finalist for the 2003 Young Australian of the Year Award. During his final year of schooling, James was the prefect responsible for the Xavier boys helping at Richmond in the Friday Night School conducted by the College. Once settled at university, James was keen to continue his involvement in this setting. Together with a few friends, James established the Wednesday Night Tutoring Program. The funding from St Vincent de Paul is important though as it means that the tutoring program can extend to barbeques in the parks, allowing an element of peer support. The tutors and students can socialise in a relaxed environment. The amount of work involved in coordinating the tutoring program is quite staggering. James lists some of the tasks. James recalls attending the birthday party for a sibling of one of the students he tutors. ‘There was an uncle there, and he’s asking questions about religion, one of them being "What do you think God wants you to do?" To which James replied, "To live in his image; to try"’.

INTERCESSIONS
Prayers of Intercession 16 May 2004 by Mr John Stubbs
Rogation Sunday - May 04
God, teach us your children how to love your world so that we are careful stewards- of your creation. On this Sunday when we remember especially the countryside and all who work there, we pray for farmers, growers, all who tend the livestock and all who by their labour here and in every place, bring food to us. Bless their endeavours, and their crops. May we value their work and not merely seek cheap food at their cost. We pray for those who will go hungry or thirsty today. May they be filled, and may we do what we can to make sure that their needs are met. Lord hear us. Lord graciously hear us

Waiting for Easter
as the bunny appears
They dream of the baskets
filled with candy and things
Some little toys
that make their face gleam
Of coloring eggs
in all different hues
Green, purple and yellow Pink, pastel and blue They make them so pretty with different designs Of rabbits and chickens and circles and lines On some they put pictures all sticky with glue And then write your name So it's only for you Some go on egg hunts and look all about And say "hey I found one" as they shout it out On Easter eve as they crawl into bed Dreaming of tomorrow what will the bunny bring Then up in the morning with smiles on their faces As they know he has come Now must find the hiding place Where he hid their baskets so they'd have to look To make it more fun as they scurried about Ahh, now they have them and are checking them out To see what he brought them lots of candy no doubt The fun and the laughter is just part of the day Teach them of Jesus and how He did pay That He died for us all and took all of our sins And today and all days give their thanks to Him For He is their Savior who loves them so true Watches over them always In Him they can trust Teach them always be kind and do the right thing To say their prayers daily as it makes His heart sing For He is the reason that Easter is here And He brings them joy all through the year Yes that day is fun for the children each year But teach them the meaning why Easter is here

did Christ have to be crucified? THE PASSOVER - 1500 B.C.- foreshadowing the Second Passover. The Israelites were in Egypt, in slavery, under the rule and laws of evil men. The word British is Hebrew and means the "People of the Covenant"; that means, the "People Israel of the Covenant" The Passover was where the "angel of death" passed over the houses of the Israelites and killed the first-born of Egypt, from EVERY household including the pharaoh's (the king). It foreshadows the Second Passover because a lamb was sacrificed and its blood used to paint around the door of every Israelite house, to save them from death, just as the death of THE Lamb of God " - Jesus and His blood, saved the entire nation from death at Passover, 1500 years later. The Passover and the lamb's blood was the thing, that brought about, the end of 400 years of slavery and oppression , under the rules and laws of man, to FREEDOM under the Rule of God; His Laws and Economics, given to Moses and the British (Israel) people at Sinai.

W hen Nadine breaks up their act, Don Hewes heads for Pastini's cafe to have a drink and console himself. In a moment of anger, he boasts that he can take any one of the chorus girls at Pastini's and teach them to dance better than Nadine. To prove his point, he selects Hannah and offers her a job, telling her to meet him at a rehearsal hall the next day. The next day, feeling sheepish, he hopes she won't show up, but she does. It takes some effort, but Don does, indeed, teach Hannah how to dance - but not before learning that her style is not the same as Nadine's. In the mean time, Hannah falls in love with Don, Don's best friend, Jonathan, falls for Hannah, and Nadine falls for Jonathan.
Easter Parade is a beautifully produced and enjoyable film with some great Irving Berlin tunes. The real showstoppers are Fred and Judy's "I Love a Piano" medley and their hobo number "A Couple of Swells", as well as Ann Miller's "Shakin' the Blues Away". Judy and Fred do a great comedy dance routine with flying feathers (reminiscent of Astaire's problems with Ginger Rogers' feathered gown in Top Hat ). Though Minnelli was taken off the picture, and it was completed by Charles Walters, Minnelli's touch is more than evident in the sumptuous staging, colors and costumes.

Frank References: Acts 2:14a, 36-41, Psalm 116:1-3, 10-17; Tone 3, 1 Peter 1:17-23, Luke 24:13-35 There was a famous monastery which had fallen on very hard times. Formerly its many buildings were filled with young monks and its big church resounded with the singing of the chant, but now it was deserted. People no longer came there to be nourished by prayer. A handful of old monks shuffled through the cloisters and praised their God with heavy hearts. On the edge of the monastery woods, an old rabbi had built a little hut. He would come there from time to time to fast and pray. No one ever spoke with him but whenever he appeared, the word would be passed from monk to monk: "The rabbi walks in the woods." And, for as long as he was there, the monks would feel sustained by his prayerful presence. One day the abbot decided to visit the rabbi and to open his heart to him. So, after the morning Eucharist, he set out through the woods. As he approached the hut, the abbot saw the rabbi standing in the doorway, his arms outstretched in welcome. It was as though he had been waiting there for some time. The two embraced like long-lost brothers. Then they stepped back and just stood there, smiling at one another with smiles their faces could hardly contain. After a while the rabbi motioned the abbot to enter. In the middle of the room was a wooden table with the Scriptures open on it. They sat there for a moment, in the presence of the Book. Then the rabbi began to cry. The abbot could not contain himself. He covered his face with his hands and began to cry too. For the first time in his life, he cried his heart out. The two men sat there like lost children, filling the hut with their sobs and wetting the wood of the table with their tears.
