The Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth hosts the best and most complete online collection of astronaut photographs of the Earth. Beginning with the Mercury missions in the early 1960s, astronauts have taken photographs of the Earth. Our database tracks the locations, supporting data, and digital images for these photographs. We process images coming down from the Space Shuttle and International Space Station on a daily basis and add them to the more than 566,355 views of the Earth already made accessible on our website. These images include 123,663 from the International Space Station (updated 6/1/2004; see database content summary British astronomer Sir Fred Hoyle stated, "Once a photograph of the Earth, taken from outside, is available - once the sheer isolation of the Earth becomes known - a new idea as powerful as any in history will be let loose." Information on the film, interview of the director, credits of the three leading male actors.
http://www.battlefieldearth.com/movie/movie.html
A fter years of anticipation, L. Ron Hubbard's monumental science fiction epic Battlefield Earth has come to the motion picture screen. Long considered a prime story for the film genre, the grand adventure of Battlefield Earth awaited only the right script adaptation before everything came together to make it a movie reality. With a Corey Mandell screenplay, which captures the
immense scope and irrepressible spirit of Hubbard's novel, that time has at last arrived.
During the first stages of preproduction, the Battlefield Earth film project attracted such top names in the movie business that it began receiving world-wide media coverage a full year in advance of its release, and quickly became one of the most keenly anticipated movies of the summer. Multiple Academy Award-nominated actor John Travolta took on Battlefield Earth in the capacities of the starring villain and as co-producer. The director was two-time Academy Award-winner Roger Christina, who George Lucas identified as the visionary director who could translate the scale, drama and vivid spectacle of the Battlefield Earth adventure to the screen. Barry Pepper, most familiar to audiences as the memorable sniper in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning Saving Private Ryan, signed on to play the hero. Cannes Film Festival Best Actor Award-winning Forest Whitaker, who worked with John Travolta on Phenomenon, joined the production as Travolta's alien sidekick.

We've got to Save Our Planet Earth! Oh, No! Our earth is in trouble, and we've got to save it! Oh, No!: Bad Facts about our earth
  • If you throw away 2 aluminum cans, you waste more energy than 1,000,000,000 (one billion) of the world's poorest people use a day.
  • Making a new can from scratch uses the uses the energy equal to half a can of gasoline.
  • About one third of what an average American throws out is packaging.
  • More than 1,000,000,000 (one billion) trees are used to make disposable diapers every year.
  • In one minute, 50 acres of rainforest are destroyed.
  • Some rain has a pH of 3 or 4. (which is pretty acidic, considering 7 is neutral, not acidic, and battery acid has a pH of 1). Some fish, such as lake trout and smallmouth bass, have trouble reproducing at a pH of 6, which is only slightly acidic. Some clams and snails can't survive at all. Most crayfish are dead at a pH of 5. You can see how bad this is for the environment.
  • On average, a person in the US uses energy two times more than a person in Japan or West Germany does, and times more than a person in India.

beginning of a life of stargazing. The best way to learn the night sky is to have someone standing right next to you, pointing out interesting objects. I tried to create a bit of that feeling with Tonight's Sky: a star chart and paragraph of information for each day . Every day's segment is designed to guide your eye to something you can see that night, or the next morning before dawn. It might be a constellation, a star, or a planet. Or it might be a celestial event, such as an eclipse. You don't need any special equipment to enjoy Tonight's Sky . You just need to look up. Our Skywatching Center has a variety of tools to help you make the most of your sky gazing. If you have questions about using our charts, be sure to look at
