Woodville I.S.D. has received "Recognized" status in the TEA accountability rating and continues to strive for excellence. Mission Statement Affirming the dignity and potential of each individual, Woodville Independent School District, in cooperation and shared responsibility with family and community, will provide a quality education for all children. The educational program will create opportunities for developing skills which will enable students to become successful, contributing, productive citizens. Programs Reading, Writing and Math initiatives are district priorities. WISD has received two academic 2000 grants to assist with these initiatives. Students, K-8, participate in the Reading Renaissance program and reading scores throughout the district continue to improve, with high percentages of mastery on TAAS Reading at every level. Multi-sensory phonics instruction enriches holistic reading programs in grades K-2. Our goal is to have each student reading on level by 3rd grade and throughout his school years. Emphasis is placed on the reading and writing connection, and all campuses are focusing on Writing Across the Curriculum. Likewise, the math initiative is PK-12. Active learning through hands-on activities is a priority. All campuses are striving to improve in problem-solving and higher order thinking concepts of probability and reasonableness. The math curriculum is based on the national standards.

Subject: Film making: where is it?
Folks,
My concern for the future of the University of Washington is that it does
not teach film-making and television production outside of extension
courses. Cinematic studies are scattered between Drama, Comparative Literature, various area studies programs, and English, and concentrate far more on analysis than creation. The university seems to be ignoring the most pervasive art in our culture, that of recorded drama for television and film, to focus on the smaller, historical art that spawned it, the theater of the stage. Clearly the stage has a great deal to teach those who make films or television shows, and the history and techniques of theater are worth

Provincial Co-operation Although the provinces and territories run their own educational systems, they are working together to develop common goals and programs in various subject areas. Alberta took an important step in this direction when it began collaborating with Saskatchewan, Manitoba, British Columbia, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories on core subject programs. Since 1996, the four Western provinces and two territories have been developing common learning standards in Math, English Language Arts and French. Grade and School Levels The following grade and school levels are most common in the province. Some school boards have a middle school structure for grades 5 to 8. Grade Age* Division Kindergarten 5 years 6 - 12 years 12 - 15 years 15 -18 years Elementary School Junior High School Senior High School *Approximately Basic Programs The Alberta Programs of Study set provincial standards for all subjects and grades. School boards select instructional materials to help students achieve these standards. Programs of study have been established for elementary, junior high school and senior high school students. Students must take certain required courses and may choose optional courses, which vary from school to school. Alberta also has an approved program statement for kindergarten.

A strategy to teach and disseminate knowledge on
Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law All efforts made by the government and the state bodies to correct the critical Human Rights situation that the armed conflict and widespread violence have brought about, would be insufficient in the absence of a long-range strategy to promote a culture of peace, coexistence, respect and reconciliation. It is essential that, simultaneous with the carrying out of the tasks which are needed to guarantee the exercise of Human Rights, an educational scheme is implemented, both at schools and among the community as whole, focusing on the meaning of respect for Human Rights. Some analysts have pointed out that the main reason for the gravity of Colombia’s present situation is the lack of a genuine state policy aimed at teaching and spreading knowledge on Human Rights. Therefore, the strategy to teach and disseminate knowledge on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law adopted by the Vice-President’s Office, is an educational tool in the effort to ensure the observance of citizens’ rights and duties. At the same time, it is a state policy relating to the teaching and spreading of the rules of coexistence and tolerance in social life. It is a great educational effort, to be implemented through the mass media, to build a new culture of peace and respect for Human Rights. This is the foundation of a just, orderly society. The purpose is to carry out a vigorous educational campaign to raise public awareness; to establish behavior patterns with respect to tolerance and peaceful coexistence; to ensure the action of society with regard to the observance of rights and duties.

DRAMA THERAPY
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you probably already have some idea of the healing power of Drama Therapy Drama Therapy is the systematic and intentional use of drama/theatre processes to achieve the therapeutic goals of symptom relief, emotional and physical integration, and personal growth. Drama Therapy is an active, dynamic approach to psychotherapy. It facilitates the client's ability to tell her/his story, resolve problems, express feelings, achieve catharsis, extend the depth and breadth of inner experience, improve interpersonal skills and relationships, and expand role repertoire and flexibility. Drama Therapy at CIIS California Institute of Integral Studies offers one of only two accredited graduate programs in Drama Therapy in the U.S. Students receive a background in psychology as well as specialized training in drama therapy, and follow a curriculum that meets the academic requirements both for Registry as a Drama Therapist (RDT) and licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT). The program emphasizes the need for acknowledging and integrating the multidimensionality-emotional, spiritual, mental, creative, and social-of the individual, and of the community. The Drama Therapy Program blends theoretical, practical, and experiential approaches to education. Support and collaboration in small, action-oriented classes is a central feature of the first year of the program. In their second year, students receive on-site clinical training and group supervision.
