Associated Press
NEW YORK - Nearly 20 years ago, legendary producer and media mogul Quincy Jones gathered about 45 top musicians, including Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen, for the charity song "We Are The World."
Now Jones has today's hottest acts, like Jay-Z and Norah Jones, set to perform in "We Are The Future," a benefit concert scheduled for May 16. (Go ahead, sing the song.) Proceeds will go toward opening centers for children in six war-torn areas.
The first center opened in early April in Kigali, Rwanda. Others are slated for Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Palestine and Eritrea. Each will differ based on needs, but most will have access to medicine, arts, sports and information on hygiene and nutrition. They will be run by the Global Youth Parliament, which will teach area kids how to run educational programs there for other children.
At 71, Jones has traveled all the world and seen it all, from total poverty to extreme wealth. He just hopes that other people will be willing help others, and to pick up where he leaves off.

Join our Mailing list NJIT Drama/Theatre and Television Minors Students at NJIT may opt for an academic minor in drama/theatre offered by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences or for an academic minor in television offered by the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Rutgers-Newark. The minor in drama/theatre combines the study of the dramatic arts as literature with training in the nature and practice of live theatre. Through this balance of academic investigation and hands-on experience, students gain an unusually broad perspective on this exciting field of the performing arts. Students electing this minor participate in actual productions staged in the joint theater season of NJIT and Rutgers-Newark Theatre Arts Program. The students’ roles in these productions, whether behind or in front of the curtain teach valuable lessons in communication, responsibility, teamwork, self-confidence, and self esteem. Interested students and for course curriculum updates contact Michèle Rittenhouse by e-mail or phone (973-596-3457) to set up an appointment with her in Kupfrian Hall, Room 133.

Journeys into a world of sound
Chris Arnot listens to hearing-impaired schoolchildren playing with top classical musicians Tuesday April 27, 2004 The Guardian The distance from College high school to the CBSO centre in the middle of Birmingham is about four miles as the crow flies and six or seven miles as the minibus drives, via the dual carriageways, flyovers and underpasses of England's second city. Yet it seems further. To the deaf and and hearing-impaired children who made the trip yesterday to show off their musical skills, it must have seemed like another world.
