and find the tranquil waters of the sea
to swim with your abandon and your grace
and lead your life so simple and so free.
But I must travel through life as a man,
as restless and as angry as a storm.
I seek out and I find peace where I can
but, to my human nature, must conform.
What must you think of me out here afloat
just looking on, your captive as you play?
Upon this large and slow and clumsy boat, if you could speak my words, what would you say? They say you dream of men, perhaps you do. But, in my fondest dreams, I dream of you.

Terrell Buckley Q: Are the Dolphins concerned about Tim Bowens missing so many minicamp practices? A: Bowens seems to have carved a niche in recent seasons where he practices less than the other defensive linemen. If he weighed less, Bowens might not continue to suffer the nagging leg injuries that have affected him the past few seasons and kept him out of practice. But after 10 NFL seasons, Bowens doesn't seem inclined to change his training habits. The Dolphins have shown patience with Bowens, but that could change. Dolphins and Man.....Equals?
by Regina Blackstock
written May 1970
Nineteen centuries ago, Plutarch, a Greek moralist and biographer made this statement: "to the dolphin alone, beyond all other, nature has granted what the best philosophers seek: friendship for no advantage". In our own times Barbara Tufty made the comment "he [Dolphins] also exhibits a friendly willingness to cooperate with other earth creatures a rare attribute which another animal, Homo Sapiens, has not yet learned to do with any consistency". Apparently there is something quite impressive about Dolphins. Not only now, when we are learning so much more about them, but even in the year 62 AD! Outside of his striking friendliness, the Dolphin seems to have been blessed with a well developed sense of humor. Dolphins have been known to silently maneuver behind an unsuspecting pelican and snatch its tail feathers usually leaving the bird minus a few. Other pranks include grabbing unsuspecting fish by the tail, pulling them backward a few feet as well as bothering slow turtles by rolling them over and over. Once a dolphin was seen placing a piece of squid near a grouper's rock cranny. When the fish came out, the dolphin promptly snatched the bait away, leaving the puzzled fish behind. In 1965 Anthropologist Gregory Bateson made the discovery that dolphins live in social groups dominated by a leader. This tie is so strong that dolphins kept in total isolation will suffer ill health and possibly death. It has also been observed that dolphins frequently stroke each other with their flippers, hence, indicating that they require physical contact much like humans. A dolphin's skin is extremely delicate and easily injured by rough surfacesvery similar to human skin.

A bout Dolphins
Dolphins are mammals, not fish. They are warm blooded like man, and give birth to one baby called a calf at a time. At birth a bottlenose dolphin calf is about 90-130 cms long and will grow to approx. 4 metres, living up to 40 years. They are highly sociable animals, living in pods which are fairly fluid, with dolphins from other pods interacting with eachother from time to time.

No living animals have captured our imaginations as have the great whales... They fire our imaginations and stab at our emotions. They inspire our art, literature, and music. And so they should. The indescribable blend of grace, power, and beauty of a whale as it glides underwater, leaps toward the sky, or simply lifts its flukes and slides into the sea symbolises a vanishing poetry of the wild.

Welcome to ¡SPLASH! a fanlisting for the cute and intelligent animal, dolphins.
    What is a fanlisting?
I didn't think I needed to explain this but I've had some people email me who obvious don't know. This isn't a fanCLUB. When you join, you DON'T get on some mailing list and I DON'T send you anything. All this is is a listing of fans of a certain topic. In this case, Dolphins. If you're a fan of them, just use the join page, fill it out, and I'll add you. Then your name is listed and that's about it. It's simple and pretty boring but that's all a fanlisting really is. But don't go emailing me asking me to add you because I'll simply delete it from now on. YOU USE THE JOIN FORM.
