Two years ago, Catholic leadership installed the controversial Legion of Christ order in Our Lady of Guadalupe. A group of Hispanic parishioners thought it was their church too and have been trying to throw out the controversial Legion ever since. By R.V. Scheide Photo by Larry Dalton
Many churchgoers at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe remain unhappy about the Legion of Christ’s takeover of their church.
On a bright Sunday morning in June, Maria Morales and Senon Palacioz walked into the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the pink stucco cathedral near the corner of Seventh and T streets in downtown Sacramento. Inside, silent, solemn Hispanics filled the hard wooden pews, spiritually shaded by the carved mahogany altar looming overhead, waiting patiently for Mass to begin. Four thousand people attend the seven Hispanic-language services delivered here every weekend. Scanning the spacious hall for familiar faces, Morales and Palacioz saw few. Most of the churchgoers were recent immigrants to the United States, their Sunday best consisting of blue jeans and a clean T-shirt or a freshly ironed cotton dresssimple clothing, simple people, humbled by the enormous altar and the magnificent depiction of the Twelve Stations of the Cross suspended on the temple's east wall. They'd come to California to enjoy the secular material benefits of living in a prosperous and democratic society, but the tie that bound them together here, at the shrine, was stronger than any economic theory or mere state.

MEMO To: Tom Trebon From: Eliot Elfner Re: Social Science Division Long Range Plan Date: Tuesday, June 3, 1997 Attached please find the initial draft of the Social Science Division Long Range Plan. It has been organized into the categories presented in the document Blueprint for the New Century: Grounded in the Past; Building for the Future , published as the culminating document of the College's strategic planning process. I have prepared this as a work in process: that is I believe it will always be subject to changes, additions, deletions, and review as we in the Division continually review the list of activities we strive to complete in the addressing our responsibilities under this planning process. There are two further enhancements to this document that need yet to be made. First I feel each of the activities should be prioritized, so that we can focus our efforts on those which are most important at this time. The timeline column is my personal suggestion as to the priority of each item. But that suggests the second enhancement necessary, which is for the discipline faculty to discuss, elaborate, add to and delete from this list, and finally to recommend the proper timeline to be associated with each activity. This will be among the first issues presented to the Division faculty next fall. Finally, please note the activity listed under section 4.12. It asks each discipline to prepare a document congruent with this format, which classifies each of their activities in the same manner as this report. I will supply them with the form, and ask them to try to classify and prioritize their activities as soon as the new year begins.

Please show me how to do long division.
Maths Help suggests:
Long division is a way to divide a large number by another number with 2 or more digits. Here is an example of a long division of a 6-digit number by a 2-digit number:
This is shown in the column on the right. Set up the problem as shown on the right. Look at the first digit inside the division. 83 does not 'go into' 3.
Write in the first column. Now look at the first two digits. 83 does not 'go into' 35.
Write in the next column. Now look at the first three digits. 83 goes into 357 four times.
LOOK AT THE TABLE ON THE RIGHT
Write 4 in the next answer space.
Write 332 below 357.
357 - 332 is 25.
Write 25 in the next row. Bring down the 4.
Write 4 next to the answer to the subtraction. 83 goes into 254 three times.
Write 3 in the next answer space.
Write 249 below 254.
254 - 249 is 5. Write 5 in the next row. Bring down the 8. 83 does not go into 58. Write in the next answer space. Bring down the 1.

Long Division with Remainders
When we are given a long division to do it will not always work out to a whole number. Sometimes there will be numbers left over. These are known as remainders. Taking an example similar to that on the Long Division page it becomes more clear. If you feel happy with the process on the long division page you can skip the first bit. The first number of the divided is divided by the divisor. The whole number result is placed at the top. Any remainders are ignored at this point. The answer from the first operation is multiplied by the divisor. The result is placed under the number divided into. Now we take away the bottom number from the top number. Bring down the next number of the dividend. Divide this number by the divisor. The whole number result is placed at the top. Any remainders are ignored at this point.

Since 1912, the Long Island Division of the Queens Borough Public Library has collected, preserved, and made available a myriad of resources that document the social, economic, and political history of the four counties on Long Island - Kings (Brooklyn), Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk. From its modest beginnings, the division has grown into one of the most extensive and important historical resources of Long Island, containing approximately 32,000 books, newspapers and other publications, 2,500 cubic feet of manuscripts, and over 100,000 photographs. Polynomial Long Division
An Example.
In this section you will learn how to rewrite a rational function such as in the form The expression is called the quotient , the expression is called the divisor and the term is called the remainder . What is special about the way the expression above is written? The remainder 28 x +30 has degree 1, and is thus less than the degree of the divisor It is always possible to rewrite a rational function in this manner: DIVISION ALGORITHM: If f x ) and are polynomials, and the degree of d x ) is less than or equal to the degree of f x ), then there exist unique polynomials q x ) and r x ), so that and so that the degree of r x ) is less than the degree of d x ). In the special case where r x )=0, we say that d x divides evenly into f x How do you do this? Let's look at our example in more detail. Write the expression in a form reminiscent of long division: First divide the leading term of the numerator polynomial by the leading term of the divisor, and write the answer 3 x on the top line: Now multiply this term 3 x by the divisor , and write the answer

    What is "long term care"?
When people think of long term care (LTC) many think of people residing in nursing homes and adult care homes . In a broader context, long term care are those services provided to people who have chronic conditions that are present for at least six months and impair their ability to carry out basic activities of daily living (ADLs) regardless of where they reside. A video entitled: " What is Long-Term Care " includes information about home and community services as well as residential/facility services available in the state as well as information about paying for long-term care, including private financing options with a focus on long-term care insurance as well as some general information about publicly funded services. This video was done by SHIIP and the NC Division of Facility Services in 1999. You will first need to have a "Real Player" installed on your computer to view the video.

    Long Division to Decimal Places
When we are given a long division to do it will not always work out to a whole number. Sometimes there will be numbers left over. We can use the long division process to work out to the answer to a number of decimal places. The secret to working out a long division to decimal places is the ability to add zeros after the decimal point. 150 is the same as 150.00 We can add as many zeros as we wish after the decimal point without altering the numbers value. We will use the example below. It works out neatly to one decimal place If you feel happy with the process on the long division page you can skip the first bit. The first number of the divided is divided by the divisor. The whole number result is placed at the top. Any remainders are ignored at this point. The answer from the first operation is multiplied by the divisor. The result is placed under the number divided into.
