Anatomically Correct: The Online Cat Dissection
An excellent tool for a high school anatomy class. A non-squeamish student can identify organs of a dissected cat, view labeled diagrams, and even download movies of the actual dissection, which was performed by a veterinarian. After viewing, students may test themselves by using an online multiple choice quiz or by filling out online diagrams. Teachers can print out labeled or blank diagrams to be used in class. "The brute animals have all the same sensations of pain as human beings, and consequently endure as much pain when their body is hurt; but in their case the cruelty of torment is greater, because they have no mind to bear them up against their sufferings, and no hope to look forward to when enduring the last extreme pain..." ~ Thomas Chalmers, Scottish Religious Leader (b. 1780, d. 1847)
Cat Dissection in America
1. How many cats are used for dissection each year?
More than 100,000 cats are dissected in classrooms across the country annually.
2. Who dissects cats? Hundreds of thousands of young adults in junior and senior high schools and colleges dissect cats in their Advanced Placement Biology, Anatomy and Physiology courses every year. This continues, even though statistics show that out of every 1,000 students entering the fifth grade, only 220 will graduate from college and only 40 will obtain science degrees. Of those 40, very few will enter a field where dissection experience is even remotely related. But almost all of these 1,000 students will dissect an animal before they leave high school. For students in junior high, high school and college, the dissection of a once-living being is not only unethical but unnecessary!

The directions contained on this page will not appear on following pages. The following icon bar has to do with changing the view on the frog, and with making movies. Clicking on the green or red arrows will turn the frog in the direction chosen. Clicking on the icons of the frog will bring up top and bottom views of the frog, respectively. Clicking on the movie projector will put the kit into movie mode. Clicking on the left or red arrows will then produce movies of the frog rotating in the direction chosen. The two red boxes to the upper left of the frog control the frog image size. "+" will increase the size by one factor and "++" by two factors. "-" decreases the size by one factor, and "" decreases the size by two factors. Clicking on one of the organs of the frog will produce a message about the organ's function, as before.
