Search the Web. What were the dinosaurs?
What did they look like? Why did they become extinct? How did they move? The answers to these questions are not easy to discover, nor are they 'set in stone'. But scientists have managed to piece together information on these remarkable animals from fossils discovered all around the world. This site attempts to present these findings in an easy to read format that hopefully will enable you to better understand and appreciate these fascinating animals. For 170 million years, Dinosaurs ruled the earth. It was a time of massive evolutionary changes. During this time there were three major time periods; the Triassic Period, the Jurassic Period, and the Cretaceous Period. Dinosaurs and the Bible
Actually, dinosaurs are mentioned in the Bible, and we will prove it by doing the following three things:
Explaining the accuracy of the Bible.
Exploring what we are taught in school and through the media.
The Bible refers to many the common animals we know today. The list includes lions, wolves, bears, sheep, cattle and dogs along with various kinds of birds, rodents, reptiles, and insects. What is interesting is that this extensive list includes three animals that we no longer recognize. These three are (in the original Hebrew language) tanniyn b@hemowth livyathan after Name and date first written in the Bible Scientific Name (best estimate) and date the name appeared tanniyn (dragon) before 1400 BC dinosaur 1841 AD behemoth before 1400 BC brachiosaurus 1903 AD Leviathan before 1400 BC kronosaurus 1901 AD re discovered them. Of course, the Bible, written between approximately 1450 BC and 95 AD, does not include any of these names. Behemoth has the following attributes according to Job 40:15-24
  • This phrase in the original Hebrew implied that behemoth was the biggest animal created.

    Dinosaurs of Ancient Queensland
Dinosaurs were animals, closely related to crocodiles and birds, that lived in the Mesozoic era between 220 and 65 million years ago. All dinosaurs had four legs, lived on land and breathed air. During the time that Queensland dinosaurs roamed the land, swimming reptiles such as plesiosaurs, pliosaurs and ichthyosaurs dominated the seas. Their remains were preserved in rocks in central and western Queensland - site of a vast inland sea 100 million years ago.

These specimens have enhanced our understanding of life in the Gobi region 80 million years ago, and they shed new light on the rise of modern bird and mammal groups. This exhibition showcases discoveries and research by Museum and Mongolian Academy of Sciences paleontologists over the last 10 years, and reflects the most current thinking on dinosaur traits, behavior, and evolutionary links to birds. Discoveries in China from just two years ago reveal that a number of dinosaur species had feathers; among the highlights of the exhibition are fully feathered models of

Dinosaurs in New Mexico Above: A Pentaceratops Dinosaurs lived in New Mexico between 220 and 66 million years ago. These 154 million years encompass the Late Triassic Period and the entire Jurassic and Cretaceous periods of geologic history. They also represent nearly the entire timespan of the dinosaurs, from their first appearance during the Late Triassic until their extinction at the end of the Cretaceous. Dinosaur fossils have been found across New Mexico, except for the southeastern portion of the state. Dinosaur fossils were first collected in New Mexico during the 1880s, and the state's dinosaurs now are displayed in many museums throughout the world. In New Mexico, dinosaur fossils are displayed at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, the Geology Museum of the University of New Mexico, the Ruth Hall Museum of Paleontology at Ghost Ranch near Abiquiu, Clayton Lake State Park near Clayton, and the Museum of the New Mexico Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources in Socorro. Dinosaurs became extinct 66 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous Period. The Late Cretaceous dinosaurs from the San Juan Basin were some of the last to have lived on Earth. They are world famous because of the information they provide scientists about the cause of dinosaur extinction.

A gravity reduction in the early Mesozoic caused a faunal transition from small robust synapsid reptiles (therapsids) to large gracile diapsid reptiles (archosaurs), including many families of gigantic dinosaurs.
    http://microlnx.com/dinosaurs/OriginOfDinosaursAndMammals.html
    On the Origin
    of
Dinosaurs and Mammals by William Carnell Erickson PDF Version Abstract The coincidence in time of incipient rifting of Pangea and the origin of dinosaurs during the Carnian age (230-225 Ma) of the Late Triassic suggests a fundamental link between the two. That link may have been the onset of Earth expansion, triggered by the Pangean thermal anomaly and resulting in a 20% reduction in surface gravity. In reduced gravity, animals will have less skeletal mass and thinner bones than equally massive animals adapted to normal gravity; a significant increase in maximum body size will also ensue. These predictions, inferred from allometric scaling principles and supported by biomedical space research and gravity tolerance experiments, are borne out in the fossil record: the Late Triassic witnessed the transition from Paleozoic faunas dominated by relatively small and robust synapsid reptiles (therapsids) to Mesozoic faunas dominated by large and gracile diapsid reptiles (archosaurs), including many families of gigantic dinosaurs. Dynamical principles of locomotion indicate that a gravity reduction will lower the speed at which animals change gait.

Utah in the Age of Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs lived only during the Mesozoic Era, which is often called the "Age of Dinosaurs". Utah has perhaps the best Mesozoic rock record in the world. The Mesozoic Era (225 to 65 million years ago) is divided into three time periods: the Triassic (225-193 million years ago); the Jurassic (193-136 million years ago); and the Cretaceous (136-65 million years ago).
    Triassic Period
The first dinosaurs lived near the end of theTriassic. Eoraptor , a bipedal carnivore recently discovered in South America, is the earliest known dinosaur. Triassic dinosaurs have not yet been found in Utah. Late Triassic rocks known as the Chinle Formation are exposed throughout southern and eastern Utah. This rock unit has yielded abundant remains of the carnivorous (meat eating) dinosaur Coelophysis in Arizona and New Mexico. However fossil skeletons of other animals are known from Utah and it is only a matter of time before Utah's first Triassic dinosaur is discovered.

Dinosaurs of the Gobi: The birdlike, beaked Oviraptor returns to the nest to feed its young, in a painting based on paleontological finds in the desert in Mongolia that show for the first time such parenting behavior in dinosaurs.
For decades afterward Mongolia was closed to Western researchers. Finally, in 1990, Mongolians invited scientists from the museum to return to the fabulous dinosaur graveyards. Now, after five years of exploration, the researchers are beginning to reveal their spectacular finds. Venturing even deeper into the remote Gobi than Andrews did, the 1993 expedition stumbled upon a hilly desert wash called Ukhaa Tolgod. Within hours of arriving and seeing bones jutting from the cliffs, they knew they had discovered perhaps the richest dinosaur fossil ground ever. This article details the exciting 1995 expedition led by paleontologists Michael Novacek and Mark Norell, a pair of scientists whose discoveries are challenging the way we look at dinosaurs. Among the extraordinary events covered is the excavation of the first known nesting dinosaur, an ostrich-like creature called Oviraptor , whose bones were found on a ring of some 20 eggs. It apparently died when a huge sandstorm buried it 80 million years ago.
