Throughout its illustrious history it has remained a nationally recognized resource for providing a strong curriculum in community oriented clinical dentistry and basic principles of research. Meharry graduates typically enter private practice, or specialty or postgraduate programs, and are well represented in academics in dental schools throughout the United States.
Approximately 50 students are accepted yearly to the four-year curriculum which leads to the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. The carefully designed curriculum, and well-equipped and modern facilities, provide the knowledge, skill and personal sensitivity necessary to meet the needs of today's demanding public. Additionally, the school sponsors two post-doctoral programs. The post-doctoral program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery consists of a four-year residency which is affiliated with the Metropolitan Nashville General Hospital and the Alvin C. York Veterans Administration Medical Center located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This program provides ample didactic and clinical educational opportunities to meet the requirements for certification of its graduates by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. One resident is accepted for admission each year into this program.
