Australian `Democrats' party
``Blame me - I voted Australian `Democrat'.'' On about 26 June 1999, the Australian political party known as the Australian `Democrats' (AD) voted with the regressive parties currently in government (the so-called `Liberal' Party and the rural-based National Party) to introduce a new tax so as to increase the tax burden on low-income people and reduce tax on high-income people. The new tax is known as the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Following on this, the AD and other regressive parties have introduced further measures to reduce taxes on rich people and companies. (Most of the income tax reduction was just indexation anyway.) It is a total mystery to me why people keep voting for the so-called `Liberals' against their own interests. Australians seem to like governments which make them suffer. (Australians alternate between the Party which Spanks [`Liberals'] and the Party which Spoils [Labor].) Now we have essentially all federal political parties in Australia in complete agreement with the view that big companies (which pay most of their bills) should be favoured in all things, and ordinary citizens should be taxed and burdened as much as possible. So the voter has little choice. The only parties in Australia that have any sympathy for poor people (who do not pay much to political parties) are now the Australian Greens Party and the Communist Party of Australia . This is therefore a very good time to leave Australia. Go to my personal political opinion diary (2001)

Democrats
The Democratic Party is a United States political party . From to , it was opposed chiefly by the Whig Party . From onward its main opposition has come from the Republican Party The Democratic National Committee (DNC) of the United States provides national leadership for the United States Democratic Party. It is responsible for developing and promoting the Democratic political platform , as well as coordinating fundraising and election strategy. There are similar committees in every U.S. state and most U.S. Counties (though in some states, party organization lower than state-level is arranged by legislative districts). It can be considered the counterpart of the Republican National Committee. Its current chair is Terry McAuliffe On January 15 a political cartoon appearing in Harper's Weekly titled "A Live Jackass Kicking a Dead Lion" by Thomas Nast , for the first time symbolized the Democratic Party as a donkey . Since then, the donkey has been widely used a symbol of the party, though unlike the Republican

MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES IN SLOVAKIA
(June 2000, http://www.europeanforum.bot-consult.se/cup/slovakia) Most parties that existed in the 1994 elections still function at the moment, though the composition of several party factions in parliament has changed in the intervening years. The ideological division of the parties runs more along pro-Meciar and anti-Meciar lines than along political lines. The change in the electoral law by the former government regarding constituent parties has influenced the process of party formation, for instance in the establishment of the Slovak Democratic Coalition (SDK). Name of the party, orientation, leadership, structure

Slovenská demokratická koalícia , SDK) - 42 Seats - Was initially established as a coalition of democratic forces against Meciar, and consists of the Democratic Union (DU), the Social Democratic Party of Slovakia (SDSS), the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), the Green Party (SZS) and the Democratic Party (DS). The party has its origins in the Blue Coalition of the Democratic Party and the Christian Democratic Movement. Under pressure of changes in the electoral law, part of the joint electoral list was transformed into a single political party. Only the first 150 members of the joint list have formed the SDK, the old parties continue to exist. In a party that is composed of christian democrats and social democrats, there are obvious political tensions between all members. While initially the SDK achieved 30 percent ratings in the polls, by July 1998 it had lost around ten percent to Schuster's

    Working for Willington Since 1995
    Our Mission
Our mission is to offer credible and accountable officials who will show leadership and possess distinct moral and ethical standards rooted in the democratic process. We will provide teamwork and communication between town boards, board members, and townspeople to establish responsible, common-sense government.
    Who We Are
A Sentinel Party is a Willington political party dedicated to Willington issues. It was formed in 1995 by a group of Republicans, Democrats and unaffiliated voters who wanted more for Willington than just "business as usual". It is a party with a mission, with ideas, with goals, and with people dedicated to achieving them. Members have one common characteristic: good, honest people willing to give up a few evenings of their time to try to do the best they can for the community. This is public service as it was intended. The philosophy of A Sentinel Party is simple: fiscal responsibility and accountability, active citizen involvement, open government, and constant improvement. We believe in the democratic process in which the townspeople and the taxpayers are the legislative body of this town. We believe that teamwork and communication between town boards, board members and the townspeople are necessary ingredients of a successful government. We believe that an active, informed citizenry must be involved with the governing process to ensure an honest and effective government. We recognize that local taxes are a necessary burden and public officials have a responsibility to control them. We believe that town officials are public servants. Finally, we believe in Willington, because we are your neighbors, your friends, your co-workers, your elected officials and WE ARE WORKING FOR WILLINGTON.

    Democrats vs republicans
When the U.S. Constitution was penned in 1787, political parties did not figure into the authors’ visions of the governmental order. The only real mention made of anything pertaining to a divided structure were indicated through constitutional arrangements such as separation of powers, checks and balances, and indirect election of the President by an electoral college. In spite of this, by the early 1800s, the United States had become the first nation to institute nationally organized parties, and was also the first to transport executive power from one faction to another by means of an election. bodyOffer(6133) Many historians directly relate the formation of political parties with the eradication of the previously enforced requirement that voters be property owners. This of course, greatly increased the size of the voting population in the early 1800s. However, with the expanded electorate also came a strong need for organization; thus the creation of political parties became essentially inevitable. The first party system, which existed from 1790 to 1824, was the Jeffersonian Republicans and the second was the Jacksonian Democrats. The Jacksonian Democrats advocated personal liberty and local rule, emphasized the freedom of the individual to follow his own interests, and appealed primarily to the common man. The Jeffersonian Republicans was the political party of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison that supported a weak central government, more power vested in the states, and a society and economy based on independent farmers.
