Master Of Education in Educational Leadership Program Overview The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Leadership is a thirty-three-credit hour, non-thesis program consisting of 18 credits of required core courses, 12 credits in one of two specializations, and 3 credits in an educational leadership practicum. This is a part-time, nonresidential, evening and weekend program designed for students who are employed full-time. In accordance with the general mission of the School of Education represented in its conceptual framework, this program facilitates students' development as reflective practitioners who bring a variety of decision making skills to the enterprise of solving problems, as scholars who are able to study their own practice as well as the practice of others in their field, and as leaders who are able to accommodate diversity among people with whom they work. The curriculum draws upon students' work experience to integrate theory and practice as it prepares them for positions of leadership in educational settings. Those settings include elementary, secondary, postsecondary, public, private, and vocational schools as well as adult and continuing education programs. There are two program specializations: School Administration (meeting Delaware certification requirements) and Adult and Postsecondary Education Administration.
Admission Requirements The program has rolling admissions. For admission, applicants must have:

School's done for the summer, but your child's learning shouldn't take a vacation. Karen Summa: "The U.S. Department of Education estimates that children lose as much as 25% of their reading and math skills while on summer break. So how do you prevent "summer learning loss" in your child? Karen Summa with Sylvan Learning Center in Prices Corner has ideas. Summa: "Making recipes and having the kids read the recipes. Playing games and having kids read the directions. That sort of thing." She also suggests reading to your kid 10 to 15 minutes a day. Even certain toys can promote learning. Summa: "Legos and tinker toys they help children acquire reasoning skills. And, getting a cash register that's a good toy to improve math skills." But, above all, Summa says make sure any learning is fun.

Sussex Tech principal addresses federal funding
    By Susan Towers
Staff Reporter Sandy Walls-Culotta, principal of Sussex Technical High School in Georgetown, has been to Washington D.C. twice over the past week to speak in favor of reauthorizing a federal education funding program. The program, Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act, is up for re-authorization and is facing some opposition from the White House, which would like to redirect some of the funding to academic programs, she said. Walls-Culotta spoke to members of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Education Reform. She was invited by Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Michael Castle (R).

    http://www.delawareohio.net/community.html
Our Community About Delaware The City of Delaware is the seat of Delaware County , 30 miles north of downtown Columbus , the Ohio state capitol. It is an independent community that has retained its small town qualities while benefiting recently from growth moving northward from the thriving Columbus region. Delaware County is the fastest growing county in Ohio, identified nationally as one of the 20 fastest growing, wealthiest and most educated areas of the country. The population is 26,500 and growing at a pace of about 7-9% annually. Delaware is becoming a community of "old-timers" and newcomers. It has been home to many families for generations. It is also an appealing place for young families to move, attracted to the quality of life and the distance from the pace and problems associated with metropolitan areas. A fast growing component of the population is young families, increasing ages 35-45 and children, ages 6 to 18. This has important significance for school programs and facilities as well as for the City. Another fast growing component is people over 65, increasing at a pace of 5% to 7% per year. About 5% of the population is minority, a figure that is reflected in school enrollments also. This portion is growing with the general pace of growth. The total labor force of Delaware County is 43,800, with an unemployment rate of 2.8%, the lowest in Ohio. The largest employers are in manufacturing of automobile coatings, plastics, copper products, education, insurance, automobile parts and distribution, sports apparel, retail, services and government. Delaware County is a net importer of workers from throughout Ohio to its many employers.

Historic Masonry Training to Reach Kent County High School Students Through the support of a Historic Preservation Fund Grant from the Delaware State Historic Preservation Office, Preservation Delaware, Inc. has developed a plan to launch a training program in the preservation trades for vocational-technical schools throughout Delaware. The focus of the plan has been a case study for introducing preservation masonry training at the POLYTECH High School in Woodside, Delaware. For several years, preservationists, architects, and craftspeople have bemoaned the lack of skilled workers capable of completing preservation and rehabilitating projects in Delaware. With the establishment of a new state historic rehabilitation tax credit and a growing awareness in preservation nationally, architects, contractors, and other preservationists anticipate that the demand for craftspeople with knowledge of historic building materials and methods will continue to rise. In the Summer of 2001, PDI worked with representatives of the Wilmington Job Corps Center to develop a comprehensive preservation trades program that will be integrated within their existing building technology curriculum - the Facilities Maintenance Program—once the new center opens. With this framework established, PDI was equipped with the knowledge and material to venture to the next phase of the project - bringing preservation trades to vocational-technical schools statewide. By diffusing the training to vocational programs statewide, PDI will assist in preparing a ready pool of local tradespeople, trained with the technical knowledge and skills to complete historic preservation and rehabilitation projects, while protecting Delaware's historic architecture from inappropriate maintenance and repair.

THE VOCATIONAL/TECHNICAL EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION OF DELAWARE INTRODUCTION Vocational-technical schools today have enormous pressure to keep pace with the changing technology and demands of the workplace. Educating students for the highly skilled workforce of tomorrow requires the purchase of expensive, advanced technological equipment as well as more intensive academic and career instruction. To meet the challenge, Delaware’s vocational-technical school districts established an educational foundation to obtain supplemental financial support for reforming, enriching, supplementing, and strengthening programs and services. The Districts The three county vocational-technical school districts, namely, Kent, New Castle, and Sussex, fill an essential role in Delaware. They enjoy strong support from business and industry and, from a public point of view, are an excellent investment. In fulfilling their mission, the districts have provided pathways to success in life for tens of thousands of high school and adult students who have entered the work force soon after graduation or have gone on to college. For almost four decades, the districts have helped serve the economic and vocational-technical training needs of the state. The Students Student demand for vocational-technical education has been increasing and will continue to do so throughout the 21
