Overview
Delaware recently conducted an analysis on integrating international studies into standards for social studies and world language study as well as teacher education (through its K-20 partnership). The state has also created two professional development clusters on Asia and on technology and international studies that provide higher pay for teachers who successfully complete the course. The anticipated result being the creation of a cadre of teachers ready to support the expansion of international content statewide. The Delaware Department of Education and the Delaware International Trade Council have also developed a statewide task force to examine the impact of globalization on the state. Overview
The Compact for Learning and Citizenship is an organization of state chiefs and superintendents committed to linking school-based service and service-learning to K-12 curriculum and to organize schools to maximize community volunteer efforts. Goal 1 Service and Service-Learning Compact members recognize the value of engaging students in service activities that are attached to the curriculum and meet local community needs. Recent studies clearly show that students involved in community service-learning not only tend to be more involved and better citizens, but also significantly improve their academic knowledge and skills. Service and service-learning should be integral components of all K-12 students’ study. K-12 teachers should be provided the formal opportunity to understand the principles and good practices of service-learning . This can occur in pre-service teaching training and/or in-service professional development. Service-learning is an effective pedagogy to meet national, state, and local education initiatives (e.g., safe and drug free schools, school-to-work, Goals 2000, education reform, etc.). Goal 2 Maximizing the Efforts of Community Volunteers Compact members are committed to providing high-quality opportunities for citizens to volunteer in K-12 schools. Members understand the value of volunteers and the role they play in assisting both students and teachers to succeed.

You will waste both your time and the grant-maker's if you submit a proposal that does not match the grantor's funding initiatives. The SchoolGrants focus is primarily schools within the United States. There are, however, often opportunities available that extend to our Canadian neighbors. Most of such opportunities are found on the Nationwide Opportunities pages.
If you know of opportunities that are not listed on the SchoolGrants site, we would appreciate you letting me know about them! It is the SchoolGrants goal to provide as many opportunities as possible to benefit our Nation's children and their schools. This is only possible with your help and assistance.

Some of the nation’s largest media companies have joined forces to support National Mentoring Month 2004—an annual campaign aimed at recruiting adult volunteers to work with young people to help them prepare for healthy, productive lives. Each January, this month-long campaign will include a combination of national media, local media, and extensive community outreach. The Delaware Mentoring Council will hold numerous events throughout the month to honor old mentors and recruit new mentors. Recruitment bookmarks are currently available at all of Delaware's public libraries. Governor Ruth Ann Minner and the Delaware State Senate will also be hosting a joint proclamation on January 15th to acknowledge "Thank You Mentor Day." The Delaware Mentoring Council, in conjunction with the University of Delaware AmeriCorps*VISTA Program will also be sponsoring a poster and essay contest for mentors and mentees throughout Delaware.
