The Regions of the United States New England The Mid-Atlantic The South The Midwest ... The West Americans often speak of their country as one of several large regions. These regions are cultural units rather than governmental units formed by history and geography and shaped by the economics, literature and folkways that all the parts of a region share. What makes one region different from another? A region's multicultural heritage as well as distinct demographic characteristics like age and occupation make regions different and special. Within several regions, language is used differently and there are strong dialects. There are also differences in outlook and attitude based on geography. New England - including Harvard, Yale, Brown, Dartmouth, Wellesley, Smith, Williams, Amherst, and Wesleyan - is unequaled by any other region. America's first college, Harvard, was founded at Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1636. Without, however, large expanses of rich farmland or a mild climate, generations of exasperated New England farmers declared that the chief product of their land was stones. By 1750, many settlers had turned from farming to other pursuits. In their business dealings, New Englanders gained a reputation for hard work, shrewdness, thrift, and ingenuity.

Two new park tenants get nod By Darrell Neale, Sussex Post GEORGETOWN - The Sussex County Industrial Park will have two new tenants following approval of a pair of leases by county council Tuesday morning. Steve Masten, Director of Economic Development, presented proposals to lease the land, located at the county airport, for 30 years. Michael and Ethan Rhodes of Delmarva Builders Supply currently use the old icehouse on Layton Avenue for their business, but have outgrown the facility, according to Mr. Masten. "We need a more efficient building," Ethan Rhodes told council members. "The icehouse has a lot of small rooms in it and we aren't able to use the elevator." Council approved the lease of lot number 21, three acres on Baltimore Avenue. Jeffrey Burton of American Mini Storage also received a lease on lot number 23 also three acres at the airport. He plans to build a small office and a production area. Mr. Burton said his business builds 8-by-16-foot containers that can be picked up and delivered to customers. "We can pick them up full and level and either deliver them to the customer's storage area or bring them to our place," said Mr. Burton.
