DEClassicalHomeEducatorsNetwork (DEClassical Home Educators Network) - DEClassical Home Educators Network - This discussion loop is intended as an on-line extension of the classical network group forming in the DE-MD-NJ-PA area. This group is for those following the classical homeschooling education model, such as described in "The Well Trained Mind" (Jessie Wise and Susan Bauer) or similar method. We are an all-inclusive Classical home educators support group, with members in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersy and Pennsylvania, meeting year-round to chat, discuss goals and educational resources, and to support each other. This is a forum for exchanging information, ideas, upcoming events, opportunities, and resources in support of our common effort to provide a classical education for our children. As a smaller group it will afford us the opportunity to get to know each other. This group is open to families who are actively home educating children in grades K - 12. We are open to discussing issues of classical education with those who are considering classically homeschooling their children in the future.

Help For Parents
Helping children and young adults deal with terrorism
from the National Association of School Psychologists
A s the nation learns more about what happened and why, adults can continue to help children work through their emotions and perhaps even use the process as a learning experience.
For Parents to consider:
1. Focus on your children over the next day or so
. Tell them you love them and everything will be okay. Try to help them understand what has happened, keeping in mind their developmental level.
2. Make time to talk with your children. If you do not talk to your children about this incident someone else will. Take some time and determine what you wish to say. 3. Stay close to your children. Your physical presence will reassure them and give you the opportunity monitor their reaction. Many children will want actual physical contact. Give plenty of hugs. Let them sit close to you, and make sure to take extra time at bedtime to cuddle and to reassure them that they are loved and safe.
4. Limit the amount of your child's television viewing of these events.

Education - Cont'd. The annually administered DSTP contributes to a vigorous reform initiative launched several years ago in education in Delaware. The results of the testing program provide our educators with a better understanding of how well prepared our students will be to meet the challenges that lie ahead. With this knowledge, Delaware students, educators and parents will know where they are and how far they have to go. Special Programs
Delaware has recently completed a comprehensive study of the funding and structure of special education. This report will provide direction for school restructuring to better support children with disabilities and other at-risk learners. Delaware has instituted a Comprehensive School Discipline Improvement Plan which establishes Alternative Programs for severely disruptive and expelled students in all three counties. School-Based Intervention Programs in grades 7-12 in all school districts, and pilot/ demonstration Community School Prevention Programs provide school linked/community based services for children and families. Delaware has undertaken to establish School-Based Wellness Centers in every high school that wants one. Currently, 29 high schools statewide have Wellness Centers in operation.
