In 1974, the city and county boards of education established a vocational / technicalschool to offer specific career training to delaware County residents.
http://www.delaware.org/comm/jvs1.htm
Delaware JVS
Delaware JVS Mission: To prepare youth and adults to enter, compete, and advance in an ever-changing work world. 65% of tomorrow's jobs will require people to have vocational or technical training (from U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics). That means that a majority of tomorrow's jobs will be specialized - they will best be filled by people who have obtained occupationally specific or technical skills. While continuing your education beyond high school is increasingly important, only 20% of the new jobs to be created between now and 2005 will require a 4-year college degree (U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics). Young people who receive vocational training, an Associate's Degree from a technical or community college, and / or 1 - 3 years of on-the-job technical training (or military training) will be best prepared for many of the new job challenges in the next century.
The Area Career Center provides career training and academic instruction to high school students from the following school districts: Delaware City, Worthington City, and the local districts of Big Walnut, Buckeye Valley and Olentangy. Delaware JVS also offers the academic courses students need to meet area high school graduation requirements and receive their diploma. (See next page for list of available programs - click on 'Continue...' at bottom.) In 1974, the city and county boards of education established a vocational / technical school to offer specific career training to Delaware County residents. Delaware JVS provides career training and academic instruction to over 500 area high school juniors and seniors who desire skilled employment immediately upon high school graduation. The JVS also serves approximately 2,500 adults each year in a variety of programs, such as: one or two-year career training programs, part-time adult classes, customized training, Adult Night High School, ABLE classes (Adult Basic Literacy Education), and the GED (Graduate Equivalency Degree) testing program.

Developing Quality Schools
A common vision of a quality education begins with schools that work in partnership with parents and the community to ensure that all children thrive and have an opportunity to develop their full potential. Quality schools come in many shapes and sizes, and communities across the country have devised varied ways to create these schools. However, most quality schools share a number of common characteristics. A recent National Parent-Teacher Association study helps define the characteristics of a quality school. I would like to share this vision with the Delaware community.
Goals and Objectives
A quality school has goals and objectives, based on a mission statement that is developed with parent and community involvement.
Funding and Financial Management
All levels of government (federal, state and local) must share in the responsibility of providing adequate and equitable funding for public schools. Operation of a quality school requires strong and sustained financial investment to support the education and related services that all students and teachers need.
