Composition Figures
These figures are made of various materials, most commonly a mixture of sawdust and glue moulded around a metal armature, they were produced roughly from around the turn of the 20th Century until the end of WW2. Some production continued after the war but in due course this material was superceded by advances in plastic technology. They are generally associated with the German toy market, where they are known as "Masse Figuren", through the products of the market leaders ELASTOLIN and LINEOL. The products of these two outstanding manufacturers have already received a lot of good coverage, so I'm not going to repeat what other people have already written so much better than I could. However, Composition Figures were also very very popular in France, as well as Belgium and Italy, where they were produced into the 1950s. In Italy they are known as "Pasta Figures" This is an SA man (Sturm Abteilung - storm trooper) made in Germany during the 1930s by LEYLA , one of the smaller manufacturers. The swastika on his red armband has been scratched off, which is common on such figures of this period as it was illegal to show this symbol in Germany for several decades after the war. This is a one piece casting and the style is reminiscent of earlier ornamental ceramic figures. The smaller manufacturers are not widely collected, and the sculpting is generally poorer, the paint on this one is quite worn so it's not worth much but it has a nice toy quality about it which I really like.

Danish women are losing out in achieving top executive positions
New figures from the Danish Prime Minister's Department show a decreasing representation of women on public committees and boards . New figures reveal that a law dating from 1990, which sought to ensure a balance of men and woman in the composition of public committees and boards, has not been realised. Whereas one in three seats (29.2%) on public committees and boards was taken by woman in 1994, this ratio has actually decreased to a little over one in four seats today (26.9%). The chair of the Equal Opportunities Commission Ligestillingsrådet Ingrid Rasmussen , deplores this development saying: "it is simply wrong that there is a law which seeks to ensure a balanced composition between the sexes in operation and we find that the trend is going in the opposite direction ... The state ought to take the lead in the battle for equal opportunity." Ms Rasmussen will initiate a investigation into the matter. Anne Baastrup , the spokesperson on equal opportunity for the Peoples' Socialist Party SF ) will bring the figures to the attention of the Prime Minister

dulce : Danish uniform language composition engine
dulce is a tool that can be used to build interpreters of a special kind. Its distinctive characteristics are:
  • A uniform syntax is used, so a common scanner and parser is used in all implementations Here is a possible expression to output 3 lines with 5 random numbers each with x as an object that has a loop control operation next as a member (see below)
Semantic routines are written in C (with the extensions of GNU C) Routines in C libraries often have to be used in specified patterns e.g. internet access routines. This can be enforced by appropriate high-level language constructs and it will be easy to write the needed semantics as `glue' to the library routines.
Most users are expected to develop language contributions rather than entire languages Incremental implementation is expected to be the usual case. Our tool should thus be especially useful for domain specific language developers because such languages may depend on several domains of expertics and domain experts should have a natural interest in reuse.

Attraction and Repulsion
Four fragments of a portrait by ANDERS BEYER - Translated by Jean Christensen
PROVINCE AND COSMOPOLITAN "In order to understand the basis for Per Nørgård's oeuvre and for new Danish music in general, it behoves us to consider elementary geographical facts and, notably, not to ignore Denmark's position between Central Europe and the rest of Scandinavia. Surveying the works of Danish composers of this century we recognize the musical equivalence of a magnetic field connecting patterns of thought in Central European modernism with a particular Nordic frame of mind, one that is dominated by the concepts of attraction and repulsion.

Annual report 1993
Appendix 2: Members of DCSD
As has been mentioned in this report, the establishment and the work of the Danish Committee on Scientific Dishonesty (DCSD) is based on a report of the Danish Medical Research Council (DMRC) entitled "Scientific Dishonesty and Good Scientific Practice" in March, 1992. This report was written by a working group appointed by DMRC with the current and previous chairmen of the council as members. In addition, the group comprised members from the medical faculties of the three universities, from the dental colleges of Copenhagen and Aarhus, from The Royal Danish School of Pharmacy, from the Journal of the Danish Medical Association, from the Danish Medical Society, from the Danish Central Scientific Ethical Committee and, finally, three members with special expertise. The report recommended the establishment of a Danish system of investigation in this field, consisting of two regional committees and a national committee. The report proposed that DMRC appoint two regional committees each consisting of three members and three alternates. The chairmen should have the qualifications of a member of the bench while the other two members should be health science researchers. The national committee should also have a jurisprudent as chairman and, in addition, six members with health expertise. This committee should also be appointed by DMRC which should ensure a balance of sex, age and professional expertise. In the final construction, the system was simplified in that only one committee, covering the whole country, was established.

Subdivision of the Maastrichtian chalk from the Danish North Sea has proven to be difficult because of the homogenous composition and appearance. A high-resolution subdivision of the chalk yields new information and better understanding of the depositional environment along with the possibility of an advantageous correlation. This new knowledge and possibility may be beneficial in reservoir geology where it can be exploited to enhance oil production from existing Danish oil fields. Petrophysical properties of a 34 m (well MFB-7) and an 11 m (well M-1X) long successions of Maastrichtian chalk from the Dan Field were examined for cyclicity by spectral analysis (i.e. FFT and a new method developed in this study). Magnetic susceptibility plug measurements, together with the neutron porosity and the natural gamma radiation well log data were analysed, and all three properties contain a consistent cyclicity at c . 2 m wavelength. Further-more, the magnetic susceptibility carries spectral evidence for a shorter cyclicity at
