Danish is spoken by the 5 million inhabitants of Denmark, and is also the official language of Greenland and the Faroe Islands, which are considered part of Denmark. It is one of the Scandinavian languages, which constitute a branch of the Germanic languages, in turn a part of the Indo-European family. Danish is most closely related to Norwegian and Swedish.
During the centuries that Denmark and Norway were one country, a dialect closer to Danish than Norwegian was spoken in the Norwegian cities. This is still in use today and is sometimes referred to as "Dano-Norwegian." The Danish alphabet is the same as the Norwegian, consisting of the twenty-six letters of the English alphabet plus æ, ø, and å at the end. Before 1948 the å was written aa. The spelling reform of that year also abolished the German practice of beginning all nouns with a capital letter. Danish Courses

Kirsten Trampedach Introduction Christianity was officially introduced to Danish society during the tenth century The first churches, of which there is only archaeological evidence today, were wooden constructions (1). During the twelfth, and especially the thirteenth century a great number of stone churches were built. The most frequent building materials were granite boulders or ashlars, but calcareous tufa and limestone were also used, though less frequently. In the middle of the twelfth century the knowledge of brick production reached Denmark, and from this time bricks became the preferred building material, not only for new constructions, but also for changes and additions to existing architecture. Today, the exteriors of churches either show the bare building material or are limewashed (2). th century to the end of the 13 th th century to about 1500. Basically, the Romanesque construction consisted of a flat-ceilinged nave and choir with small windows. Sometimes an apse was added to the choir at the east end and a tower to the nave at the west end. During the Gothic period churches went through major changes. Vaults were constructed, windows enlarged and chapels, vestries and towers were added. All churches have probably been decorated with wall paintings (3). Today, visible paintings from the earliest period up to modern times are preserved in about 600 churches. Most of the decorations represent the Catholic period from the 11

Biography
Vagn Holmboe
In 1949, something happened that was to have considerable influence on the rest of NørgÃ¥rd's life. Realising that he needed to learn more about composition, he took his courage in both hands and (at the age of 17!) called one of the most prominent Danish composers of the time, Vagn Holmboe, to ask if he would take him on as a private pupil. A meeting was arranged. As NørgÃ¥rd himself remembers it, Holmboe picked up one of NørgÃ¥rd's scores and began to read it; then he turned to face the young composer, looked him deep in the eyes and announced: "I am surprised”. NørgÃ¥rd would never forget this phrase.
So it came about that Holmboe gave Nørgård private lessons in composition until he was admitted to the Academy of Music in 1951 after passing his A-levels. He was of course a private pupil of Holmboe, and the lessons were paid for by his parents: DKK 100 per lesson, which at that time seemed a lot of money to the young composer. Holmboe insisted on a trial period to see if his pupil could profit from the lessons. Nørgård turned out to be a good pupil, and so his parents continued to pay for the lessons. Holmboe, for his part, used the money to buy scores - though not for himself, but for Nørgård!

Revues
In his own autobiographical writings, Nørgård notes that as a teenager he was very shy. On the other hand, he was not averse to company, and was very willing to display his skills as a pianist and composer to a wider public. He also composed music for various special occasions, including stage revues. Below you can see excerpts from the programmes for two revues in 1950, for which Nørgård wrote the music.

Welcome to the Danish Code Number Wizard (MAL-KODE) A code number is a calculated number, which is used for paints, adhesives and other chemical products intended to be applied on surfaces by professionals The calculation of the code number is based on the chemical composition of the product.
The information needed for the calculation is the CAS.No. or the chemical name and the percentage for each substance/component in the product as well as the density of the product.
For aqueous solutions the pH-value is also relevant. The user inserts information on the chemical composition of a product, the density and pH-value manually. The system will hereafter calculate the code number.
All data will be stored in the system and may be edited by the user or even deleted.

f. References Introduction and Rationale It is increasingly well appreciated that body composition and body composition topology are related to disease conditions. This has been shown with heart disease, diabetes, gall bladder disease, certain cancers, osteoporosis, and arthritis (see Sowers, 1996). In field based studies, measures of body composition have historically been limited to simple measures such as weight adjusted for various height power indices as measures of adiposity. An example of this is the body mass index (Quetelet index) which is weight divided by the square of height. While weight adjusted for height is highly correlated with the amount of fat mass (correlations of 0.80 to 0.90), this is a notoriously poor approach for the measurement of muscle mass, protein status or lean tissues. The importance of the lean compartment has now been shown to be a better predictor of bone mass and its change. It is in the lean compartment that metabolism of glucose takes place and where insulin resistance is manifest.
